“THREE BEERS” VS. 0.16% BAC — STEPHEN SCHNEIDER’S STATEMENT FACES NEW SCRUTINY

Stephen Schneider reportedly told police that he had consumed three beers over roughly two hours before operating his boat on Barnegat Bay.

According to court documents, a later test showed a 0.16% BAC, twice New Jersey’s legal limit. Prosecutors cited the result during Schneider’s recent court hearing as evidence of the level of impairment they allege existed when he was operating the vessel.

The July 19 collision sent 9-year-old Mya Golabek and 7-year-old Sigmund Golabek into the water after Schneider’s boat struck a channel marker. Both children later died at the hospital. 

The difference between Schneider’s reported account and the subsequent toxicological result has become an important issue in the prosecution’s case. Schneider has pleaded not guilty, and the evidence will ultimately be considered through the court process.
