A disturbing pH๏τograph that briefly circulated on a local Facebook page before being removed has become the lasting visual record of the final moments of Caroline “Caro” Pena, a 32-year-old mother of five who died after a violent confrontation in Del Rio, Texas. The image shows Pena with blood seeping through her white top in the immediate aftermath of the attack, while the women later charged in her death stood nearby. According to the criminal complaint, Pena arrived at a residence on the 800 block of E. 10th Street in a black Dodge pickup truck.

Shortly afterward a black Chrysler 300 pulled up and Amaya “Cookie” Diaz and her sister Kitty Mia Diaz exited the vehicle and confronted her. Video footage recorded by cameras at the home of Kyandra Renee Faz shows Amaya approaching with an object believed to be a knife and striking Pena in the back, after which blood became visible on the back of her shirt. Kitty and Faz then joined the alleged ᴀssault. The four women eventually separated and left the scene.

Pena was taken first to a local hospital and later transferred to a hospital in San Antonio because of the severity of her wounds; she died hours later on Thursday. Her uncle later explained that the families had long-standing connections in the small border town and that he had worked with one of the attackers’ uncles for thirty years. He emphasized that the children, ranging in age from three to sixteen and including two who are autistic, are taking the loss the hardest and are being cared for by relatives while funeral plans are made.

Before their arrest, Kitty and Amaya had already showered, as evidenced by their wet hair, and had changed out of the clothing seen in the video. The pH๏τograph of Pena’s blood-soaked shirt remains one of the most unsettling pieces of evidence ᴀssociated with the case, illustrating the sudden and violent end of a young mother’s life in a community where nearly everyone is connected.
