“THE BRIDGE LIT UP FOR A REASON NO ONE WANTED TO HEAR” — A 12-Year-Old Boy’s Fight Is Touching Hearts Everywhere

Ben Franklin Bridge lights up in honor of 12-year-old baseball player critically hurt before game

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The Ben Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia lit up blue lights Wednesday night in honor of Xavier Taylor.

Camden City Hall, in New Jersey, also shined blue in support of the young boy.

The 12-year-old player from Maple Shade Youth Baseball was hit in the neck by an errant throw during warmups in May.

He was airlifted from the field to Cooper University Hospital, where he remains in extremely critical condition while on a ventilator in the intensive care unit.

The Taylor family expressed graтιтude for the outpouring of support as they remain focused on Xavier’s recovery.

“I could not have asked or ever dreamt of support like this right now, but our end goal is for our son to be back on this field or whatever field is next destined for him,” Greg Taylor said.

His dad told Action News that Phillies catcher Garrett Stubbs visited Xavier in the hospital, as the community continues to rally support for the family.

Players from the Tampa Bay Rays also posted a video on social media, sending their prayers and well wishes.

“We’re just so touched and blessed by all the prayers and thoughts and well-wishes and kind donations that everyone’s been giving him over the last couple of days,” Greg said after the accident. “I know some people don’t like to think that, you know, that stuff helps. It has absolutely helped us get through the last couple of days as a family.”

Community members have also organized a Meal Train for the family and have raised more than $119,000 to ᴀssist them in their time of need.
