For 12-year-old Xavier Taylor’s family, one small detail has carried an enormous emotional weight: his baseball bag was still sitting untouched, just as he had left it before the accident.

Xavier was seriously injured on May 26, 2026, when an errant baseball struck him during warmups with Maple Shade Youth Baseball in New Jersey. He was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital, where he remained in critical condition. His father, Greg Taylor, has described the incident as a freak accident and said he does not blame the teammate who threw the ball.

Xavier’s love of baseball has remained a central part of the support surrounding him. His No. 6 has appeared on shirts and signs, while youth baseball communities have rallied around his family and continued sending messages of encouragement.
