Lindsay Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, said his client is sad as the jury appears to be stuck at an impᴀsse, but expressed optimism that they are continuing to deliberate.

The jury of nine women and three men told the court Tuesday morning that they were unable to reach a unanimous decision. Judge William Sullivan responded by asking the jury to spend more time and continue its deliberations.

Outside the courthouse on Tuesday afternoon, Reddington was asked how his client reacted to the jury’s difficulty.

“She’s got a flat affect,” he said. “She’s sad, you know?”

After being sent back to work, the jurors continued deliberating until about 3:30 p.m., when they asked to go home for the night and resume deliberations on Wednesday morning.

“The fact that they’ve not said that they’re done is very, very heartening,” Reddington said. “Obviously they’re working very hard.”

Clancy, 36, is accused of murder in the deaths of 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan. Her defense argued that she was not criminally responsible for the killings because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.

After hearing more than 80 witnesses and seeing more than 300 pieces of evidence, the jury began its deliberations on Thursday afternoon. When they went home on Tuesday, the group had completed approximately 23 hours of deliberations.

“They kept at it. It’s obviously very encouraging,” Reddington said.
