“Teen Patient Undergoes Life-Saving Amputation After 12-Year Battle With Rare Tumor, Begins New Chapter in Recovery”

A 14-year-old girl, Jasmine Ramirez, is beginning a new phase of her life following a complex and life-saving medical procedure performed at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, in December 2025.

Jasmine was admitted for a 17-hour surgical operation in which doctors performed a left leg amputation and removed approximately 90% of a rare, aggressive tumor that had been developing since early childhood. According to medical reports shared by her family, the tumor had also begun spreading into her abdominal region, significantly increasing the risk to her life.

Her condition was first identified when she was just two years old, when her left leg began to grow abnormally. Over the following years, she underwent multiple surgical procedures in attempts to control the growth and spread of the condition. However, none of the interventions were successful in fully stopping the progression of the tumor, which continued to develop over time and severely impacted her mobility and quality of life.

In late 2025, her condition worsened further when she developed an infection, leading doctors to determine that amputation was the only viable option to prevent further life-threatening complications. Following this decision, Jasmine underwent the extensive surgery, which lasted 17 hours.

Medical teams successfully removed the affected limb and most of the tumor mᴀss. The procedure is described by her family as a critical turning point after more than a decade of ongoing medical challenges.

Jasmine spent Christmas in the hospital recovering from surgery, supported by her family throughout the process. Despite the emotional difficulty of the situation, her recovery marked an important milestone after years of repeated treatments and uncertainty.

Her sister organized a fundraising campaign to ᴀssist with ongoing medical and recovery-related expenses. The GoFundMe initiative has reportedly raised more than $22,000, reflecting strong community support during her recovery journey.

Following her hospital stay, Jasmine has since returned home and continues her rehabilitation process. While her physical journey has been significantly altered, her family describes this moment as the beginning of a new chapter in her life—one focused on recovery, adaptation, and long-term healing.

Medical professionals involved in her care emphasize that her case reflects both the complexity of rare pediatric tumors and the importance of long-term treatment planning in severe congenital conditions.

After 12 years of continuous medical struggle, Jasmine’s story now shifts from survival to recovery, as she begins learning to live life beyond the illness that defined her childhood.
