‘She Deserved to Keep Being a Little Girl’: Aubrey’s Family Chose Hope After a Devastating DIPG Diagnosis

For Lisa Ward and her family, life changed forever with a single conversation inside a doctor’s office.

Just days earlier, their five-year-old daughter, Aubrey, had been doing what every child should—playing, laughing, attending kindergarten, and enjoying a family cruise during winter break. She appeared healthy, energetic, and full of life.

Lisa and her husband were told the unimaginable: their five-year-old daughter was expected to live only nine to twelve months.

In an instant, dreams of future birthdays, graduations, family vacations, and watching Aubrey grow into adulthood were replaced by uncertainty, heartbreak, and fear.
