Pope Leo XIV to ALS ᴀssociation: “You Teach the World the True Value of Life”!lh

In an emotional meeting at the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV praised members of an ALS ᴀssociation for their courage and dignity, telling patients, families, and caregivers, “You teach the world the true value of life.”

Addressing individuals living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as ALS, the Pope spoke about the importance of compᴀssion, solidarity, and respect for every human person, especially those facing serious illness and physical suffering. He emphasized that human dignity is never diminished by weakness, disability, or dependence on others.

“In a society that too often measures life by efficiency or productivity,” Pope Leo said, “your witness reminds humanity that every life possesses infinite worth.” He also expressed graтιтude to doctors, volunteers, and caregivers who accompany ALS patients with dedication and love through difficult daily challenges.

The Pontiff encouraged continued support for medical research and social ᴀssistance programs while warning against cultures of exclusion or indifference toward the sick and vulnerable. His words moved many attendees, several of whom described the encounter as a powerful source of comfort and hope.

Pope Leo concluded with a prayer for all those affected by ALS and their families, asking that they may find strength, peace, and solidarity in the midst of suffering.
