Pope Leo XIV Expresses Graтιтude for Pro-Life Nativity Scene Highlighting the Gift of Life!lh

VATICAN CITY — Pope Leo XIV has praised a unique pro-life Nativity scene displayed at the Vatican, describing it as a powerful reminder of the dignity and value of every human life. During a ceremony unveiling the Christmas displays, the Holy Father thanked Costa Rican artist Paula Sáenz Soto for creating the work, which combines the traditional message of Christmas with an appeal to protect life from conception.

The Nativity scene, тιтled Gaudium (“Joy”), features a pregnant Virgin Mary and includes 28,000 colorful ribbons woven throughout the display. According to the Vatican, each ribbon symbolizes a life preserved through prayer and the support offered by Catholic organizations to mothers facing difficult circumstances. Pope Leo noted that the artwork represents “a life preserved from abortion” and serves as a visible sign of hope and compᴀssion.

Addressing pilgrims and donors gathered at the Vatican, the Pope emphasized that Christmas celebrates God’s closeness to humanity through the birth of Christ. He said the Nativity scene invites believers to reflect on the mystery of life, humility, and love while encouraging moments of prayer and graтιтude during the Christmas season.

The display has attracted international attention for its distinctive symbolism, linking the Christmas story with support for mothers and unborn children. By expressing his graтιтude for the artwork, Pope Leo XIV reaffirmed the Church’s message that every human life is a precious gift deserving of protection, care, and hope.
