PART 2: THE MAN WHO OWNED THE CITY

Trevor’s face twisted in pain as the enormous hand тιԍнтened around his wrist.

“WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?” he shouted.

The stranger didn’t answer immediately.

He simply stepped between Trevor and Sadi, blocking her completely from view.

Then he spoke.

“I’m the man you should have stayed away from.”

Trevor tried to pull free.

It was useless.

“Security!” he screamed. “Get this lunatic off me!”

Two men in dark suits appeared behind the stranger. Arthur and another bodyguard moved closer, their expressions completely unreadable.

Sadi finally exhaled.

“Roman.”

Her husband turned slightly.

The moment he heard her voice, the coldness in his eyes changed.

“Are you hurt, sweetheart?”

She glanced at her knee.

“Nothing serious.”

Roman looked down.

There was a small tear in her jeans, and beneath it, a patch of reddened skin where she’d struck the marble.

His jaw тιԍнтened.

“Who did this?”

Sadi didn’t answer.

She didn’t need to.

Roman slowly turned toward Trevor.

Trevor’s expression changed when he noticed the platinum wedding band on Sadi’s finger.

Then he looked at Roman’s.

The same discreet family insignia.

Something flickered across his face.

“Wait…” Trevor stammered. “Sadi? You’re married?”

Roman released his wrist.

Trevor stumbled backward, clutching his injured hand.

“That’s right,” Sadi replied.

Chloe looked between them, visibly confused.

“Married to who?”

Arthur stepped forward.

“Roman Moretti.”

The name landed like a bomb.

A nearby sales ᴀssociate dropped a velvet jewelry tray.

Chloe’s lips parted.

Even Trevor, a corporate lawyer who had spent years cultivating powerful connections, knew that name.

Roman Moretti wasn’t simply a wealthy businessman.

He controlled an empire stretching across real estate, shipping, private security, and dozens of businesses throughout the city. His name rarely appeared in newspapers, but everyone in certain circles understood what happened when someone crossed him.

Trevor swallowed.

“Mr. Moretti… I didn’t know.”

Roman looked at him.

“You didn’t know she was my wife?”

“I mean… I didn’t recognize her. She was my—”

“Careful.”

One quiet word stopped him.

Sadi stepped around Roman.

“Don’t bother explaining, Trevor. You recognized me perfectly well. You just thought I was still the woman you abandoned.”

Trevor’s face reddened.

“That’s not fair. We had a complicated relationship.”

Sadi almost laughed.

“Complicated?”

She looked directly into his eyes.

“You took the money I’d saved for rent. You left me with unpaid bills. You told me I’d never become anything without you. And now you want to pretend we simply grew apart?”

Chloe slowly released Trevor’s arm.

“Is that true?”

“Chloe, don’t listen to her.”

“Did you steal money from your ex-girlfriend?”

Trevor looked around desperately.

“Can we discuss this somewhere private?”

Roman gave a small gesture.

Arthur immediately retrieved his phone.

“Sir, should I call the police?”

“Not yet,” Roman answered. “First, I want to know why this man thinks he can ᴀssault a woman in public and walk away.”

Trevor straightened his jacket.

“I’m an attorney. I know my rights. You can’t threaten me because of some misunderstanding.”

Roman’s expression remained unchanged.

“An attorney?”

He glanced at Arthur.

“Find out which firm employs him.”

Trevor suddenly looked uncomfortable.

“There’s no need for that.”

“Why not?”

Roman stepped closer.

“Are you afraid they’ll discover something?”

For the first time, Trevor said nothing.

Sadi noticed it.

So did Chloe.

And then a middle-aged man wearing an expensive gray suit hurried into the boutique.

“Mr. Moretti! Mr. Moretti, please!”

He was followed by two nervous ᴀssistants.

Trevor immediately recognized him.

It was Richard Coleman, the managing partner of his law firm.

“Richard!” Trevor exclaimed. “Thank God you’re here. This man is ᴀssaulting me. I want you to explain that he can’t—”

Richard didn’t even look at him.

He walked straight toward Roman and extended a trembling hand.

“Mr. Moretti, I sincerely apologize for this situation.”

Roman ignored the offered hand.

“Do you know this man?”

Richard finally glanced at Trevor.

“Unfortunately, yes.”

Trevor forced a nervous laugh.

“Richard, tell him. Tell him I’m a senior ᴀssociate at your firm.”

Richard’s expression hardened.

“Trevor, stop talking.”

The boutique became completely silent.

Richard turned toward Roman.

“There’s something you should know. We received a complaint about Mr. Trevor’s conduct three weeks ago. It involved financial misconduct, falsified client signatures, and the unauthorized transfer of funds.”

Trevor went pale.

“That’s confidential!”

Richard continued.

“An internal investigation was opened. Several clients have already requested their money back.”

Chloe slowly stepped away from him.

“Trevor… what money?”

He grabbed her arm.

“Not now!”

She pulled away.

“Don’t touch me!”

Roman watched the exchange without moving.

Then he looked at Sadi.

“Is this the man who took your savings?”

Sadi nodded.

“Yes.”

Roman’s eyes returned to Trevor.

“Then perhaps we should discuss another matter.”

He took a thin document from Arthur.

It was a bank transfer record.

Trevor stared at it.

“Where did you get that?”

Roman placed it on the counter.

“Three years ago, you transferred six hundred dollars from Sadi’s account. But that wasn’t the only money you took from her.”

Sadi frowned.

“What do you mean?”

Roman looked at her gently.

“I didn’t want to bring this up until I had proof.”

He turned the document around.

There were several transactions listed beneath Trevor’s name.

The amounts were much larger than six hundred dollars.

Sadi stared at the figures.

Her face slowly lost its color.

“That’s impossible…”

Roman placed a hand on her shoulder.

“Your mother left you an inheritance before she pᴀssed away. Trevor knew about it. He forged documents and attempted to claim part of the estate.”

Sadi’s breath caught.

She had spent three years believing she had lost everything when Trevor abandoned her.

But now she was discovering that he had stolen something far more precious.

Trevor suddenly shouted.

“That’s a lie! You can’t prove any of that!”

Richard closed his eyes.

“Trevor, the bank already provided the transaction records.”

Chloe looked horrified.

“You told me you built your career from nothing.”

Trevor turned toward her.

“Chloe, please. I can explain.”

But she was already removing the engagement ring.

She placed it on the glᴀss counter.

“I’m done.”

Trevor stood motionless.

Roman leaned slightly toward him.

“You made one mistake today, Trevor.”

Trevor looked up.

“What?”

“You thought my wife was still alone.”

Roman’s voice dropped.

“And you made another mistake three years ago. You thought she would never discover what you stole.”

He turned to Arthur.

“Contact our legal team. Preserve every document. And make sure the police receive the original evidence.”

Arthur nodded.

“Immediately, sir.”

Sadi looked at Roman.

“Wait.”

He stopped.

She glanced at Trevor, then at the cufflinks inside the display case.

“I still want to buy those.”

Roman’s expression softened for the first time.

“Of course.”

She turned toward the sales ᴀssociate.

“Please wrap them. They’re a gift for my husband.”

The ᴀssociate nodded quickly, still visibly shaken.

But just as Roman reached for Sadi’s hand, Arthur’s phone vibrated.

He read the message.

His expression changed immediately.

“Boss…”

Roman looked at him.

“What?”

Arthur leaned closer and whispered something in his ear.

Roman’s face became terrifyingly still.

Then he looked at Sadi.

“Sweetheart, we have a problem.”

“What happened?”

He showed her the message.

It contained a pH๏τograph of their private residence.

And beneath it was a single sentence:

WE KNOW WHO YOUR WIFE REALLY IS. THE INHERITANCE WAS NEVER MEANT TO BELONG TO HER.

Sadi felt the blood drain from her face.

Because suddenly, she remembered something her mother had told her shortly before dying.

Something she had never understood.

“If anyone ever comes looking for the Moretti family, don’t trust the person who tells you they’re protecting you.”

Roman stared at the message.

Then he quietly ordered:

“Lock down the estate. Nobody gets in or out until we know who sent this.”

And for the first time since Sadi had married him, she realized that the secrets surrounding her own family might be more dangerous than the enemies Roman had spent his entire life fighting.
