PART 2 — THE BLOODLINE CAGE… AND THE MIDNIGHT GALLOWS!

PART 2 — THE BLOODLINE CAGE… AND THE MIDNIGHT GALLOWS! 😱⚡
The street turned deathly quiet.
Alexander stared down at the tarnished silver pocket watch resting in his mᴀssive, trembling palm. On the worn backplate was the faint etching he had carved with his own hunting knife eight years ago: To Tommy — Stand Tall.
The towering rancher slowly lifted his gaze. His slate-gray eyes, once softened by hope, hardened into pure, glacial rage. Standing at six-foot-nine, his shadow completely swallowed Isabella’s father and the ornate black carriage.
“Thomas is alive…?” Alexander’s deep voice rumbled, so low and terrifying the surrounding horses shifted uneasily in the slush. “You told the territorial marshals my brother perished in a river barge collapse in Illinois.”
Isabella’s father, Marcus Bennett, took an involuntary step back toward his carriage, his polished cane trembling against the frozen mud. “The boy is delirious! He doesn’t know what he’s talking about! Alexander, step away from my family before I summon the county sheriff!”
“Call him,” Alexander snarled, taking a single thunderous step forward. “Call every deputy in the territory. If my brother is drawing breath beneath your floorboards, God Himself won’t keep me from tearing your Chicago estate down to the foundation with my bare hands.”
“Alexander, please, listen to me!” Isabella sobbed, rising from the snow and placing her hands desperately against his mᴀssive chest. Her green eyes were flooded with agonizing guilt. “I didn’t answer your letter because I was looking for a husband. I answered it because it was the only way to save your brother’s life!”
Alexander looked down at her, his jaw clenching so hard a muscle twitched violently along his cheek. “You played me. You used my loneliness as a weapon.”
“No! Thomas begged me to come!” Isabella wept, shielding the trembling little boy behind her skirts. “Eight years ago, my father framed Thomas for embezzling railway bonds to steal your family’s mineral land grant! When Thomas refused to sign over the mineral rights to your ranch, my father threw him into an underground cellar beneath our Chicago bank vault. But Thomas fell in love with my late sister, Sarah… and before she died, she gave birth to this child. Leo is Thomas’s son! He’s your nephew, Alexander!”
The breath left Alexander’s chest like a physical blow. He looked down at the boy. The curly dark hair, the stubborn cleft in his chin—it wasn’t just a resemblance. It was Whitmore blood.
“My father found your letter to the agency last month,” Isabella rushed to explain, her voice shaking with terror. “The Chicago banker I’m promised to is the syndicate boss backing my father. They realized who you were. They brought Leo here as hostage leverage to force you to surrender the deed to the entire valley… or they’re going to hang Thomas in that cellar and make it look like a suicide!”
Marcus Bennett’s panicked facade suddenly shattered. A sinister, venomous smirk spread across his lips as he backed safely toward the carriage door.
“Very touching, Isabella,” Marcus sneered, pulling a heavy brᴀss whistle from his black coat and blowing a shrill, piercing blast into the frosty air.
Within seconds, the thunder of galloping hooves shook the street.
Six heavily armed Pinkerton agents on dark horses rode out from behind the freight depot, levering their Winchesters and surrounding the boardwalk. Their lead enforcer aimed a double-barreled sH๏τgun straight at Alexander’s chest.
“You’re a clever beast, Whitmore,” Marcus spat, resting his hand on the carriage doorframe. “You have until sunrise tomorrow. Sign the deed over to my syndicate, or your brother’s corpse will be floating down the Missouri River before breakfast. And as for my daughter and the bastard…”
Marcus signaled the gunmen.
“Seize the girl and the boy! If the giant twitches, blow his head off right in front of them!”
Two riders lunged forward to grab Leo, but with blinding speed, Alexander swept the boy into his mᴀssive left arm and drew his heavy Colt .45 with his right, leveling the barrel straight between Marcus Bennett’s eyes.
Nobody fired. The air was thick with gunpowder and death.
Then, through the tense silence, a strange sound cut across the snowy wind.
From the train depot behind them, the iron telegraph began clacking furiously, out of control.
The stationmaster burst through the depot doors, his face drained of all color, waving a freshly printed telegram toward the street.
“STOP! EVERYBODY PUT YOUR WEAPONS DOWN!” the stationmaster screamed, his voice cracking with sheer panic. “A message just cleared the Chicago wire from the federal marshals!”
Marcus Bennett froze. “What nonsense is this?!”
The stationmaster pointed a trembling hand directly at Marcus, screaming so loud the entire town could hear:
“THE CELLAR AT THE BENNETT BANK WAS RAIDED AN HOUR AGO! THOMAS WHITMORE BROKE OUT OF HIS CHAINS… AND HE’S COMING ON THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS WITH A WARRANT FOR MARCUS BENNETT’S EXECUTION!”
