Newly Released Body Camera Footage Shows Moments After Fatal Stabbing at Texas Track Meet

Newly released police body camera footage provides a closer look at the moments following the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas.
The footage was released after the conclusion of Karmelo Anthony’s trial and is part of a larger collection of evidence presented during the case, including surveillance video, 911 recordings, and crime scene pH๏τographs.
Body Camera Footage Released
The body camera video shows Anthony, who was 19 at the time of the incident, visibly emotional as officers placed him in handcuffs on April 2, 2025.
In the footage, Anthony repeatedly tells officers that Metcalf “put his hands on me,” referring to the confrontation that preceded the stabbing during a weather delay at the track meet.

Additional surveillance footage released with the evidence package shows activity immediately after the incident, including an individual identified by prosecutors as Anthony leaving the area before being detained by responding officers.
The stabbing itself is not clearly visible in the available video. Prosecutors said the recordings helped establish the sequence of events presented at trial.
Trial and Conviction
According to testimony and court records, the confrontation began after Metcalf asked Anthony to move away from a tent designated for Memorial High School athletes.
Witnesses testified that Anthony warned Metcalf not to touch him before pulling out a knife and stabbing him in the chest.
Anthony maintained that he acted in self-defense. Prosecutors argued that the use of ᴅᴇᴀᴅly force was not legally justified under the circumstances.
After hearing the evidence, the jury rejected the self-defense claim and found Anthony guilty of murder.
Earlier this month, he was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Under Texas law, he will become eligible for parole after serving the portion of his sentence required by law.
Case Continues to Draw Public Attention
The case has generated widespread public discussion throughout the investigation and trial.
Following the verdict, Anthony’s family continued to maintain his innocence and stated that they believe he did not receive a fair trial. His attorneys have announced plans to appeal the conviction.
Prosecutors have consistently maintained that the evidence presented at trial supported the jury’s verdict and have rejected claims that race influenced the investigation or prosecution.
Meanwhile, Austin Metcalf’s family has continued to mourn his death. During sentencing, his mother described the lasting impact of losing her son and the grief his family continues to experience.
The release of the body camera footage and other trial exhibits has renewed public interest in the case, with differing opinions continuing to be expressed regarding the evidence and the jury’s decision.
Anthony has begun serving his sentence while the appellate process moves forward. As with any appeal, the conviction will remain subject to review through the court system.
