Lucy Letby Case Remains Under Scrutiny as Questions Over Evidence and Hospital Failures Continue

Lucy Letby was convicted in 2023 of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital, with a further attempted mu#der conviction following a retrial in 2024. She has consistently maintained her innocence and is serving a life sentence.
Since the convictions, some medical specialists and statisticians have questioned aspects of the evidence presented at trial. Critics of the convictions have particularly focused on how medical events were interpreted and whether the number and condition of vulnerable premature babies in the neonatal unit were adequately considered.
