Lindsay Clancy’s clothes from stranglings put on full display in courtroom

The bloodied clothing Lindsay Clancy wore the night she strangled her three children, then attempted to kill herself, was shown to the jury.
Prosecutor Shanan Buckingham displayed Clancy’s dark tank top, blue jeans and gray sports bra that she was wearing that night. The clothing had been cut down the middle by medical staff who treated Clancy.
Clancy, 36, is on trial for killing her three children, Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan, at her home in Duxbury, Mᴀssachusetts, in January 2023.
Jury shown Lindsay Clancy’s bloodied clothing she was wearing the night of killings
The first witness called to the stand today is Mᴀssachusetts State Police Sergeant Dan Lawlor.
He responded to the hospital where Lindsay Clancy was brought after she killed her three children and attempted self-harm.
Jurors were then shown clothing Clancy was wearing the night of killings.
ᴀssistant DA Shanan Buckingham put on black latex gloves and began rifling through brown evidence bags.
She pulled out Clancy’s dark tank top, blue jeans and gray sports bra that she was wearing that night.
They had both been cut down the middle by medical staff treating Clancy.
Jurors leaned forward to look at the items and taking down notes.

Duxbury police officer called to the stand
The prosecution called Duxbury Police Officer Cameron Daley to the stand.
After brief questioning from both the prosecution and the defense, the judge called for a lunch recess.
Court will resume at approximately 2pm ET.
Defense says Clancy was turned away from Rhode Island hospital because she was overmedicated
Defense attorney Kevin Reddington said Lindsay Clancy was turned away from Rhode Island Women and Infants Hospital because they had concerns that she was overmedicated.
Mental health counselor Latiesha Dukes said she did not know that was why Clancy was turned away, adding that the reasoning surprised her.
The defense is arguing the overmedication caused her psychosis.
Counselor testifies that Lindsay Clancy had ‘intrusive thoughts’
‘She reported that is was continuous intrusive thoughts about not wanting to be there, but no plan,’ Dukes said.
The counselor said she referred Clancy to the Women and Infants Hospital on Rhode Island because of ‘continued pᴀssive [self-harm] ideation.’
Mental health counselor Latiesha Dukes called to the stand
The next witness called to the stand is Latiesha Dukes, mental health counselor who treated Lindsay Clancy in South Shore’s perinatal behavioral health program in November and December 2022.
Dukes is currently being sued for malpractice by both Patrick Clancy and Lindsay Clancy separately.
The lawsuits allege that she – and several other providers who treated Clancy in the months leading up to the killings – overmedicated Clancy while treating her for postpartum mental health issues.
This overmedication led to her conditions worsening, and ultimately the deaths of her children, the suits allege.
The civil suits are still making their way through the courts.

Jury brought back in
The jury was brought back into the courtroom.
Defense attorney Kevin Reddington continued cross-examination of Mᴀssachusetts State Police Sergeant Dan Lawlor.
Investigator admits police had ‘theory’ psychologist told Lindsay Clancy to claim she heard voices
Sergeant Dan Lawlor admitted that there was a ‘theory’ that psychologist Dr Paul Zeizel planted the seed in Lindsay Clancy’s mind to say that she had heard voices.
Dr Zeizel is a highly-experienced, well-respected forensic psychologist who works with defense attorney Kevin Reddington.
He visited Clancy when she was in hospital in the days after the killings.
During that visit, he let Clancy use his cell phone to call Patrick. Clancy told her husband that she had heard voices on the day of the killings.
The officer admitted that one of the state’s theories was that Zeizel told Clancy to say that as part of her defense.
He said he remembered speaking about that theory to other police officers but claimed he doesn’t recall speaking to the prosecution team about this.
‘The conversation also included the fact that it was the psychologist who planted that seed in her mind?’ Reddington pressed him.
‘That would be the theory,’ he admitted.

Jury exits courtroom, witness questioning resumes
The sidebar took a long time and appeared to be very animated.
The judge sent the jury out of the courtroom and allowed the defense to continue questioning Mᴀssachusetts State Police Sergeant Dan Lawlor.
This is called a voir dire, which is a legal process when a judge allows lawyers to question a witness to prevent biased testimony from reaching the jury.
Defense gets animated while cross-examining investigator
The defense has previously pointed out that investigators failed to search Clancy’s bedside drawers.
If they had, they would have found a drawer containing multiple pill bottles and Clancy’s Apple Watch.
‘I don’t need to ask if you saw this,’ defense attorney Kevin Reddington said, picking up the white-painted drawer and showing it to Sgt Lawlor.
Reddington then got animated as he asked the witness: ‘Did you know that the prosecutor is saying that MY doctor told her to call Patrick to say she heard voices?’
The state objected and the judge quickly called a sidebar.
Reddington said that Clancy’s parents and previous attorney weren’t allowed to see her.
Reddington had to get a court order so that a psychiatrist, Dr Paul Zeizel, could see her.
Prosecutors have raised questions about Clancy being alone in the hospital room with Zeizel after the killings, suggesting that this is when she first mentioned hearing a voice that told her to kill the children and herself.

Lindsay Clancy murder trial resumes
Testimony is set to resume in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy at 9am ET today.
Around 20 members of the public – predominantly female – are in line to get inside the courtroom today.
One mother and daughter told the Daily Mail they wanted to come see the trial for themselves after watching it online for the past couple of weeks.
They said they feel very sorry for Clancy and feel she was let down by everyone in the lead up to the killings.
Nurse suspected Lindsay Clancy was ‘manic’ and may have had bipolar disorder
Psychiatric mental health nurse pracтιтioner Rebecca Jollotta testified on Tuesday that she suspected Lindsay Clancy had bipolar disorder based on her symptoms and reaction to medication.
‘A mixed state presentation is clinically acute, unstable. I really wanted to get he manic symptoms under control. I really wanted to get her to sleep,’ Jollotta said.
In a December 12, 2022, message exchange with Clancy, Jollotta said she ‘strongly, strongly recommend a partial hospitalization program.’
The nurse also testified that during a December 2022 appointment with Clancy and her ex-husband, Patrick, she suggested the mother of three may have bipolar disorder.
However, Jollotta said Patrick immediately shut down the suggestion.
‘My wife is not bipolar,’ Patrick responded, according to Jollotta.
The nurse said that Clancy just looked at her but said nothing.
