When Charlotte Youds was expecting identical twin girls, she never imagined one of them would face such an extraordinary fight for survival.

Aniyah was born with encephalocele, a rare birth condition in which part of the brain develops outside the skull. Shortly after birth, doctors performed emergency surgery to remove damaged brain tissue, leaving her with only around 10 percent of her brain.

The outlook was devastating. Her parents were told Aniyah was unlikely to survive, and doctors believed there was nothing more they could do. As life-support machines were removed, Charlotte and her partner, Will Todd, prepared to say goodbye to their newborn daughter.

Instead, Aniyah did something no one expected.

She continued fighting.

That very same day, her condition stabilized, and before long, she was well enough to go home with her family alongside her twin sister, Sophia.

Now four months old, Aniyah continues to surprise everyone with her strength. She breathes on her own, does not require a feeding tube, and only takes medication for reflux. Although doctors know her brain developed abnormally, they say it’s impossible to predict exactly what she will be able to achieve.

Rather than focusing on limitations, her family is celebrating every milestone.

According to her mother, Aniyah is bright and responsive. She smiles, laughs, enjoys listening to music, and even tries to dance whenever she hears a favorite tune.

While her journey is far from over and regular check-ups remain an important part of her care, Aniyah’s remarkable determination has already challenged expectations and brought hope to everyone around her.
