A shocking alleged domestic violence incident in La Crosse, Wisconsin, has left a young mother fighting for her life and an 11-month-old baby covered in blood after her father allegedly carried out a brutal attack.

On May 15, 2026, police responded to a 911 call from a woman who feared she was dying. When officers arrived at the scene, neighbors had already rushed in to help. They found 28-year-old Ivan Canchola-Garcia’s ex-girlfriend, identified as Kayla, suffering from multiple serious stab wounds while she had been holding their infant daughter. Emergency crews quickly transported the mother to a local hospital, where doctors intubated her to treat life-threatening injuries to her neck, armpit, and left shoulder.

Miraculously, both the mother and the 11-month-old baby survived the attack. Although the infant was not physically injured, she was found with blood soaking her clothes after the alleged ᴀssault occurred while her mother held her.

Court documents obtained by local media reveal a disturbing history of violence between Canchola-Garcia and the victim. This was reportedly not the first time the pair had a violent confrontation.

On May 16, 2026, cameras spotted his vehicle in the Chicago area. Authorities obtained a warrant and arrested him that evening around 7 p.m. in Whitestown, Indiana. He was taken into custody by local police.

Canchola-Garcia now faces serious charges, including first-degree attempted intentional homicide, use of a dangerous weapon, and domestic abuse.
