Hampton house fire results in 2 deaths, including a child

HAMPTON — Two people died after a residential fire, including a child, according to the Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue.
At about 7 a.m. on Monday, the fire department received a call about a residential structure fire in the 4100 block of Chippendale Court. This block has single-family homes and is near West Mercury Boulevard. The Hampton fire department learned that there were still people inside the house.
Firefighters arrived at the scene at about 7:04 a.m. and found visible smoke and flames from the outside of the house. Crews could hear people inside the house and went to search for them, beginning an aggressive fire attack. About 20 minutes later, the fire was put out.
A child died at the scene of the fire and an adult was taken to a hospital with life-threatening burns where they later died from their injuries.

This situation is still being investigated and the cause of the fire is unknown. The names and ages of the people who died are not being released until their next-of-kin has been notified. The fire department also did not share how many people were inside the home at the time of the fire.
