BORN WITH AN EXTREMELY RARE CONDITION, BABY ADIK IS LEARNING TO GROW UP UNDER THE PUBLIC’S GAZE
Baby Adik Missclyen was born with congenital hypertrichosis, an extremely rare condition that causes excessive hair growth over parts of the body, including the face and upper body.
Her father, Roland, says strangers sometimes stare at his little girl, and some have even used cruel words to describe her appearance. For the family, those reactions can make something as simple as taking Adik outside feel difficult and painful.
But beneath the unusual appearance is simply a healthy little girl. Adik’s condition does not affect her overall health, and she continues to attend regular medical check-ups so doctors can monitor her development.
Her parents hope people will look beyond her hair and see Adik for who she truly is: a child who deserves the same kindness, acceptance, and love as any other baby.
Sometimes, the hardest part of living with a rare condition is not the condition itself, but the way other people choose to look at you. 💙
