Born Weighing Just 1 Pound 3 Ounces, Baby Cooper Continues His Incredible Fight After Open-Heart Surgery 💙👶

When Cooper entered the world nearly 12 weeks early, he weighed just 1 pound 3 ounces (540 grams)—small enough to fit in the palms of his parents’ hands. From the moment he was born, he was surrounded by the dedicated care of the neonatal intensive care team as he began the biggest fight of his young life.
Now, more than five months later, Cooper has grown to over 10 pounds, an incredible milestone that once seemed almost impossible.
His parents, Chris and Christa, have spent more than 150 days by his bedside, making countless trips to and from the hospital while waiting for the day they can finally bring their little boy home.

Recently, doctors discovered Cooper needed another major intervention. A heart catheterization revealed a ventricular septal defect (VSD)—commonly known as a hole in the heart—that required open-heart surgery.
During testing, Cooper also experienced a serious pulmonary hypertension crisis, adding another challenge to his already complex medical journey.
Surgeons successfully repaired his heart, but recovery has taken time. Although doctors initially hoped to remove his breathing tube soon after surgery, Cooper’s tiny lungs needed additional support, and he remains on a ventilator while his body continues to heal.
Despite these setbacks, there have been encouraging signs.
His oxygen levels have remained stable, doctors have gradually reduced some of his medications, and his medical team is carefully preparing for another attempt to help him breathe on his own.
Cooper also continues to receive treatment for pulmonary hypertension, a condition that can make breathing especially difficult for premature babies.

Throughout every challenge, his parents have found reasons to celebrate each milestone—every ounce gained, every positive update, and every step forward.
“Cooper has taught us more about strength than we ever imagined,” they shared. “We can’t wait for the day we finally bring him home.”
For now, Cooper’s journey continues one day at a time, surrounded by the love of his family and the dedication of his medical team.
Though he is still fighting battles most babies never have to face, this tiny little boy continues to prove that courage is never measured by size. ❤️
