Augustinians Celebrate One Year Since the Election of Pope Leo XIV!lh

ROME — Members of the Order of Saint Augustine are celebrating one year since the historic election of Pope Leo XIV, the first Augustinian ever chosen to lead the Catholic Church. Across communities in Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia, friars marked the anniversary with Mᴀsses, prayers, and reflections on a moment many describe as both joyful and transformative.

The anniversary has prompted renewed attention to the Augustinian values that have shaped the Pope’s ministry: unity, friendship, humility, and the search for truth. Since his election, Pope Leo XIV has frequently spoken about communion, dialogue, and service, themes deeply rooted in the spirituality of Saint Augustine of Hippo.

Augustinian leaders recalled the excitement of May 8, 2025, when white smoke rose above the Vatican and Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost emerged as Pope Leo XIV. Many members of the order described the moment as an unexpected blessing and a sign of hope for the Church.

Special celebrations highlighted the Pope’s missionary spirit, his years of service in Peru, and his commitment to building bridges across cultures and communities. Friars noted that even as Pope, he continues to emphasize fraternity and the importance of listening to others.

As the Augustinian family marks this milestone, many see it not only as an anniversary but as a reminder of a broader mission: to promote truth, unity, and love in a world often marked by division. One year after his election, Pope Leo XIV remains a source of pride for his religious order and an enduring symbol of hope for millions of Catholics worldwide.
