Alabama Man Charged After Crash That Claimed Mother and Three Children

A man in Alabama has been charged more than two months after a crash that claimed the lives of a mother and three of her children.
According to the Moulton Police Department, Garrett Cole Nix turned himself in on June 29 after a grand jury returned indictments related to the April 11 collision.
The victims were Ashley Hagood and her children, 13-year-old Bryant Ballew and 7-year-old twin sisters Bryleigh Pledger and Brynleigh Pledger. Ryan Jolly previously confirmed that all four died as a result of the crash at the intersection of Highway 157 and Highway 24 in Moulton.
Investigators allege that Nix was speeding and ran a red light before his vehicle struck the car Hagood was driving. A crash report obtained by local media stated that Hagood had the right of way at the time of the collision.

One of Hagood’s other children, a 10-year-old, was also injured in the crash and was hospitalized before later recovering.
According to the indictments, Nix faces four counts of manslaughter, along with one count each of first-degree ᴀssault, driving under the influence, running a red light, speeding, and failing to wear a seatbelt.
Ashley Hagood was remembered by loved ones as a devoted mother whose strength and dedication earned her the nickname “Wonder Woman.” Her obituary described her as someone who embraced motherhood with unwavering love and determination.
Her son Bryant was remembered as a kind-hearted older brother with a pᴀssion for trucks and big dreams for the future. In a social media post shared just months before the crash, Hagood also expressed her love for her twin daughters, writing that they would always be her little girls, no matter how old they became.
It was not immediately clear whether Nix had entered formal pleas. His attorney, James Sturdivant, has argued that while the collision was a heartbreaking tragedy, it should be treated as an accident rather than a criminal case. He has also consistently denied allegations that his client was under the influence at the time of the crash.
