After spending 362 days in the hospital, baby Calliope is finally going home—just in time to celebrate her first birthday. 💜

Born at just 22 weeks and three days, Calliope entered the world weighing less than one pound. Doctors immediately fought to save the tiny newborn, who was so small her parents said she fit in the palm of their hands.

Her moms, Ashley DeTar Birt and Emily DeTar Birt, had overcome years of fertility struggles before finally welcoming their daughter through IVF. But their long-awaited joy quickly turned into an emotional battle when Emily unexpectedly went into labor months too early.

Calliope spent nearly her entire first year of life in the hospital, facing one challenge after another. She battled serious breathing complications, underwent treatment for eye problems, and experienced brain injuries after a period of oxygen deprivation. There were moments when her family feared they might lose her.

Yet Calliope never stopped fighting.

After more than 250 days in the neonatal intensive care unit, she was transferred to a children’s rehabilitation hospital, where she continued to grow stronger through feeding, occupational, and physical therapy. Every small milestone brought her one step closer to home.

Now, after 362 days in the hospital, Calliope has reached the moment her family dreamed of from the very beginning—she is finally home.

Her parents say bringing her through the front door felt both magical and completely natural, as if she was finally where she had always belonged.

As they prepare to celebrate Calliope’s first birthday, they are looking forward to creating the family memories they once only imagined—from cheering at basketball games to simply enjoying everyday moments together.

More than anything, they hope their daughter grows up knowing how deeply she was loved—not only by her family, but also by the doctors, nurses, therapists, and caregivers who stood beside her throughout her remarkable journey.

After 362 days of courage, resilience, and hope, Calliope’s greatest milestone isn’t just surviving—it’s finally being home where she belongs. 💕
