Gareth Gates has reportedly been banned from driving for six months after clocking up four speeding offences in under three years.

The pop star, 40, was caught by a speed camera doing 62mph in a 50mph zone of the M4 in South Wales near Pentyla Seaway Parade Bridge, reports The Sun.

The publication claims he pleaded guilty to speeding in his Range Rover Sport at Port Talbot back in April.

Gates did not appear at Cardiff Magistrates Court but sent an email asking to be dealt with in his absence.

District Judge Charlotte Murphy said: ‘Mr Gates has nine points on his license for three offences of speeding. He will be disqualified from driving for six months.’

He was fined £230 but this amount was reduced to £153 because he pleaded guilty.

Gates has been contacted by MailOnline for comment.  

It comes after in 2017 he dodged a driving ban after being caught doing 47mph in a 30mph zone – his fourth speeding offence at the time.

The performer was stopped by police as he tore through Bradford, West Yorkshire in his luxury Range Rover at 17mph above the limit.

But magistrates took pity of the entertainer as he appeared in court and claimed his former wife and young daughter would suffer if he was disqualified.

Instead of a ban, the Pop Idol was ordered to pay £1,493 and given five points on his licence.   

Gates was stopped by police on Huddersfield Road, Bradford, on January 22 2017 during a police clampdown on speeders.

Gates, who already had nine points on his licence at the time, attended Bradford Magistrates’ Court to plead his case after admitting speeding.

Prosecutor Teresa King told the court that when stopped Gates had confirmed to police that he was the driver.

‘He was asked if his speedometer worked correctly and he said ‘yes’,’ said Mrs King.

The singer faced disqualification under totting up but he argued a driving ban would result in a heavy financial loss to others and leaving him unable to fulfil professional, personal and charity commitments.

His solicitor Ashfaq Chowdhury told the bench that since appearing in Pop Idol 15 years ago Gates he has enjoyed a busy career, which takes him all over the country.

‘He drives on his own and is a one-man-band. His Range Rover is full to the brim with equipment, musical instruments, clothes and outfits,’ said Mr Chowdhury.

Gates was fined £1,280 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £128 and £85 prosecution costs. And his licence was endorsed with a further five points.
