As Davina McCall recovers from her shock brain surgery, she is being supported by her partner Michael Douglas, who has pledged to keep fans updated on her progress.

The TV presenter, 57, revealed on Friday she was undergoing an operation to remove a benign tumour, after a ‘very rare’ colloid cyst had been found that affects only three in a million people.

Davina explained she received the diagnosis by chance after booking in for a ‘health scan’. 

Celebrity hairdresser Michael later shared a health update on Davina’s Instagram, in which he said she was ‘utterly exhausted’ and now recovering in the intensive care unit.

Michael added that the operation was ‘text book’ and that she was grateful for everyone’s support.

Who is Michael Douglas?

Michael, 49, is a celebrity hairdresser from Leyland, in northwest Lancashire.

He previously considered a career as a motorbike mechanic before embracing his love of hairdressing.

Michael has been in the hair industry for over 21 years, beginning his career as a junior at Wella’s London studio before working his way up. 

He’s since gone on to style the locks of some of the most famous people in the world including Kate Moss, Johnny Depp, Sienna Miller – and of course Davina. 

While he’s also demonstrated his expertise on a variety of TV shows including Good Morning Britain, The One Show and This Morning. 

Michael is also the founder of hair styling company mdlondon, where he vows his mission is to ‘demystify the world of hair styling’ and ‘untangle the smoke and mirrors of salon- perfect hair.

Michael was previously married to ex Tracey and they share two sons.

Davina and Michael first met when he styled her hair during her time presenting Big Brother, which she worked on from 2000 until 2010.

They turned their friendship into romance during the summer of 2019 – two years after her split from ex husband Matthew Robertson. 

A source told The Sun at the time: ‘The romance blossomed from a place of friendship and trust and the couple are just enjoying each other’s company and having a laugh.’ 

‘Davina especially likes Michael’s sense of humour and kind nature. It’s fairly early days but Davina’s mates think Michael is a good guy.

‘Davina feels ready to move on now after her marriage split and is really happy.’

Remaining coy on the situation, Davina told The Telegraph just one month before: ‘I have been out on dates – but can’t a woman be single and happy?…

‘I was in a relationship for 20 years and there is a lot more for me to think about than finding a date. Life is different. I have three children and a career…’

Last January, Davina confirmed that she and Michael moved in together, and the couple had already begun making ‘new traditions.’ 

The Masked Singer judge revealed that her hairdresser beau moved into her home before Christmas 2022, and they watched The King’s Speech together with Davina’s sister Rebecca.

With the pair having both been married before, Davina explained that they didn’t need to ‘rock the boat’ by tying the knot, insisting that for now, marriage is ‘off the table’.

Speaking to The Sun, she responded ‘no’ both times when asked if she was engaged to Michael or planned to marry down the line.

Giving her reasons for her refusal, she went on: ‘That’s not even on the table, it’s just not. He’s been [married before] so we both just feel like we are happy, let’s not rock the boat. Let’s just keep things on the down-low.

‘We’re not interested. I knew Michael for so many years [before we got together] that there were no questions to ask like that. I know him. It was easy.’

Shutting down any further questions about her love life, Davina concluded by saying: ‘I love Michael. And I always feel like it’s too precious to just talk about in public. I just want to keep it for me.’
