Whoopi Goldberg told the audience on The View that she “likes to be eaten from time to time” during a segment celebrating her 69th birthday.
Get your mind out of the gutter — that’s not what she meant!
As is tradition, Goldberg spent her birthday episode giving away “Whoopi’s favorite things” on Wednesday, November 13. One of the items was a wheel of cheese from Italian company Parmigiano Reggiano with her face printed on it.
“I always wanted my face on cheese,” her cohost Sara Haines exclaimed.
After kissing the cheese, Goldberg added, “I like to be eaten from time to time.”

Whoopi Goldberg has made headlines for her controversial remarks just as often as she has for her storied, EGOT-winning career. The View cohost found herself in H๏τ water throughout 2022 after making antisemitic comments about the Holocaust that led to a two-week suspension from the long-running ABC talk show in February. Almost as soon as the words were out of her mouth, Haines turned around and walked out of the frame as Goldberg acted like her own innuendo had left her speechless.

The crowd’s chuckle and applause turned uproarious a moment later when Haines returned to give Goldberg a hug and Goldberg stood on stage, mouth agape.
“Never mind,” she said, before quickly segueing to “this is a wheel of authentic Parmigiano Reggiano from Italy, and this has been aged for 24 months and it’s a testament to Italian tradition and quality.”
“So if you would like to win a wheel just like this,” she continued before Haines interrupted her with, “and eat Whoopi Goldberg!”
Goldberg then revealed everyone in the audience was going home with their own block of cheese, though it didn’t sound like her face would be printed on each, preventing the crowd from being able to eat Whoopi themselves.
That wasn’t all that the longtime View host gave away — and that wasn’t the only moment in the segment that caused viewers to question what they just heard. Among her other favorite things was an Aleon suitcase, which Goldberg described as perfect for her travel needs because “it’s moisture resistant and I won’t explain about that.”
Goldberg also gave away Lavazza coffee, Barbera olive oil, Giusti balsamic vinegar and Ami Paris’ fall/winter 2024 clothing collection as more of her favorite things, before shouting out her All Women’s Sports Network. The AWSN has already launched in 65 countries, reaching over 2 billion people.
Later in the episode, Goldberg locked herself in a wind machine where she randomly selected a member of the audience to win a free trip to Italy.

But the episode wasn’t only about Goldberg giving away her favorite things. Cohost Joy Behar continued her long-standing tradition of gifting Goldberg her famous lasagna.
“Joy makes the greatest lasagna ever,” Goldberg declared.
