Jamie Foxx reveals mantra he ‘lives by’ following near-death experience

Jamie Foxx has revealed the mantra he ‘lives by’ 19 months after surviving a near-death ‘medical complication,’ which put him in a 20-day coma and left him unable to walk.

‘No bad dayz,’ the Oscar winner – turning 57 next month – wrote on Tuesday.

‘This is my mantra after surviving something that I thought I would never go through. My good friend James [V. Barnett], who also happens to be my manager, gave me this phrase. I live by it now.

‘When you come through the darkness, the light looks brighter. And while I’m at it, I want to say thank you to everyone that sent up a prayer. I needed it.’

Jamie (born Eric Bishop) then urged his 31.2M social media followers to watch his first comedy special in 22 years – Netflix’s Jamie Foxx: What Happened Was… premiering December 10 – ‘if you need a spiritual tune-up.’

Foxx’s Instagram post received supportive comments from celebs like Oppenheimer actor David Krumholtz: ‘Prayers stay up for you, Jamie.’

And Red H๏τ Chili Peppers bᴀssist Flea posted three heart emojis.

In the teaser for his upcoming stand-up special, the In Living Color alum told the crowd: ‘I said, “If I can stay funny, I could stay alive.” I’m back!’

Jamie’s heart and my soul was ‘filled with nothing but pure joy’ after he ‘had an opportunity to tell my side of the story’ over three nights October 3-5 in Atlanta, GA.

‘I haven’t been on stage in 18 years but I needed the stage and I needed an audience that was made up of nothing but pure love and that’s what you were,’ Foxx gushed on October 13.

‘When people ask me is this a stand-up comedy show I say, “No, it’s an artistic explanation of something that went terribly wrong.”‘

In behind-the-scenes snaps, the Grammy winner could be seen playing piano and singing during the What Happened Was special.

Jamie only had eight days left of filming on Seth Gordon’s spy comedy Back in Action – premiering January 17 on Netflix – when he suffered what he thought was just ‘a bad headache.’

‘I’ve been through something. I’ve been through some things,’ Foxx said while accepting the Vanguard Award at the Critics Choice ᴀssociation event on December 4.

‘I cherish every single minute now — it’s different. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it’s tough when it’s almost over… when you see the tunnel. I saw the tunnel — I didn’t see the light. It was H๏τ in that tunnel too, I don’t know where I was going. “S***, am I going to the right place?”‘

On the personal front, the life-long bachelor had the support of his newlywed daughter Corinne ‘Foxx’ Marie Bishop, 30; from his relationship with Air Force veteran Connie Kline.

Jamie could also lean on his 16-year-old daughter Anelise Bishop (with former publicist Kristin Grannis) as well as his model girlfriend of 15 months, Alyce Huckstepp.
