The Day Of The Jackal fans think Eddie Redmayne should be the next James Bond after his ‘superb’ performance in the spy thriller

Eddie Redmayne has been named as a contender for the next James Bond by fans of his new series The Day Of The Jackal.

The series, which is based on the Frederick Forsyth novel of the same name, stars Eddie as an ᴀssᴀssin targeted by an intelligence officer, played by Lashana Lynch.

The show has gone down well with viewers who thought Eddie’s performance proved he had the potential to be the next James Bond.

Taking to X, fans wrote: ‘Eddie Redmayne in The Day O The Jackal is class. Contender for the next James Bond.’

‘Just watched The Jackal on Sky, Eddie Redmayne should be the next James Bond’… ‘Eddie Redmayne’s audition for James Bond in The Jackal is superb.’

‘Superb and a stunner, Eddie Redmayne is James Bond material, magical’.. ‘Eddie Redmayne HAS to be the next 0007 on the strength of the performance here.’

‘That new Day Of The Jackal series really proves Eddie Redmayne should be the next James Bond. He’s probably a bit too old for it now but damn if he would be great.’

Daniel Craig played the iconic character for five films in the franchise, between 2006 and 2021.

It was reported that fans are set to wait half a decade to see another 007 flick return to their screens.

The five-year delay is reportedly caused by ‘delays to production and casting’ as the next spy is still yet to be confirmed.

A year following’s final No Time To Die release in September 2021, producer Barbara Broccoli said that there was a year wait before filming the next flick.

But, to the unhappiness of 007 fans, it is likely to be much longer as filming has still not started.

In June, 2022, Barbara said: ‘There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond.

‘We’re reinventing who he is, and that takes time. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.’

While fans are enjoying The Day Of The Jackal, the thriller has received a more mixed response from critics.

Some have hailed the reboot as ‘truly compelling’ while others branded it ‘dull and pointless’.

The Telegraph claimed the 21st century reboot was ‘truly compelling’ as they ᴀssessed Eddie’s character.

Jasper Rees rated the series a star rating of four out of five and wrote: ‘The main event of the chase is prone to misfire and mid-story sag. Still, the otherness of Redmayne compels.’

While the Irish Independent claimed The Day Of The Jackal is ‘long and baggy’ and has too many ‘uninteresting characters’.

Pat Stacey wrote: ‘This Day of the Jackal is… well, not. It’s long and it’s baggy, with too many uninteresting characters, too many tedious domestic scenes, and the usual overblown and unbelievable shootouts and car chases.’

Meanwhile, Rebecca Cook from Digital Spy said The Day Of The Jackal is a ‘compulsive but conventional watch’.
