Yellowstone is returning on Sunday with a new episode from the second half of season five.
On Thursday Cole Hauser, who plays Rip Wheeler on the Paramount+ series, sat down with Drew Barrymore to talk about what it was like going back to the beloved Dutton drama.
And during the chat the California native revealed a secret detail about shooting again in Montana.
Apparently the plot details are so hush-hush that there was extremely limited access to any information.
‘The crew couldn’t even see the scripts,’ Cole revealed to Drew after she said she tried but failed to get an advance screening of Sunday’s return episode.
Last week he told ET he was able to see all of the scripts whereas some of the actors did not. And he added the characters have to ‘come together as a family’ after ‘a loss’ and then learned how ‘to survive.’

Drew said: ‘Just so you know, we’re at the same parent company and I could not get a screener. They have this thing on lockdown. It’s like Fort Knox. You cannot get in there. We couldn’t even get a clip!’
What fans do know from the season five, part two Yellowstone trailer: Beth Dutton pushes her brother’s lover Sarah Atwood around and promises revenge.
Hauser also noted that working on Yellowstone for seven years has been ‘a wild experience.’
But he did not touch on whether the rumors are true that there will be a sixth season.
Cole also talked about working with Kelly Reilly – who plays Rips’ wife Beth: ‘Kelly and I are great friends and working with her – her ability as an actress is phenomenal. She is so different than the actual character,’ he said before adding: ‘We are like brother and sister.’
And when Barrymore told Hauser that she has a Yellowstone T-shirt with his face on it, he made a dirty comment: ‘Every girl needs a little rip in their jeans.’
Yellowstone returns on Sunday without it’s main star Kevin Costner who plays John Dutton.
Also on the show Cole talked about turning 50.
‘I’m always saying, like I, I never thought I’d make it to 40 then I, you know, 50 now, it’s like I’m like, you know, what are you gonna do for that? And so I’m gonna go on a trip around the world solo,’ said the pal of Ben Affleck.

That means without his actress wife Cynthia Daniel and their kids.
When Drew asked how his spouse feels about that, Cole said she is ‘pretty happy.’
Then he said he was ‘just kidding.’
‘No, she’s, she’s gonna come with me to, I, I’ll just say it. Spain and then we’ll have my 50th and then from there I go to Africa, Africa to New Zealand. And, and we’ll see where else. But, that’s, that’s kind of the road map right now.’
He also said he met his wife when at his mother’s house over 30 years ago
‘Yeah. It’s a, it’s a great story too. I’ll just tell you because, and it, it’s, it’s true. I think when you meet people in your life that are important that should be there for life, certainly with my wife when she walked by my mother’s window time stopped and I was like, Who is that?
‘And so of course I inquired to my sister, Vanessa, come here. I said, “I wanna know who that is” and she goes, “That’s my friend Cynthia.” I said, “Well, have her come to dinner” and so she ended up coming to dinner with my mom.’
The trailer for the rest of season five of Yellowstone was shared last month and Kevin is all over it.
‘Everyone’s forgotten who runs this valley,’ Costner begins in a voiceover as John Dutton. ‘Time to remind them.’
On November 10, the second half of season five debuts after a very long wait as fans hope to get some answers about the fate of the Dutton family.
The trailer aired last month. Adding to the chaos was the repeated appearance of the show’s main star Kevin Costner, who already quit the series earlier this year
Costner notably exited from Taylor Sheridan’s neo-Western series – which will air the remaining six episodes of season five.
So what is new?
Fans get to see Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) telling her lover Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) to make a move against his dad as she says, ‘Old lions die in the jaws of younger lions. And you are the younger lion.’
The new trailer comes just after the network dropped five pH๏τos to give fans a glimpse at what is to come – following the revelation the show is set for a surprise sixth season.
There was a teaser for the new episodes earlier this month.
The beginning of the teaser kicked off with Costner’s character, James Dutton, who said, ‘Legacy. You build something worth having. Someone’s gonna try to take it.’
Kevin could be seen on a ranch followed by another quick appearance in front of a fire, while other characters were also introduced, such as Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton), Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) and Wes Bentley (Jamie Dutton).
The clip then cut to Hauser’s Rip saying, ‘What I’m doing isn’t for the ranch. It’s for us.’
Little snippets continued to play out in the teaser from a group of horses riding at night, to an FBI raid.
‘You destroy me, you destroy yourself,’ Bentley’s character said as he seemingly got rid of evidence.
Costner’s character, James Dutton, said in the earlier teaser, ‘Legacy. You build something worth having. Someone’s gonna try to take it’
The video jumped to Beth shoving her brother’s girlfriend against a wall in a heated exchange – and while later talking on the phone, she expressed, ‘Unlike you, I keep my promises.’
The second half of Yellowstone’s fifth season comes two years after the first part aired from November 2022 through January 2023.
Despite Costner briefly being seen in the latest trailer, the actor confirmed his exit from the Paramount+ series in June.
At the time, he uploaded a clip to social media and expressed to fans, ‘I just want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon…’

‘And doing all the things that’s required, and thinking about Yellowstone – that beloved series that I love, that I know you love – I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue Season 5b or into the future.’
In regards to the show, the star added, ‘It was something that really changed me. I loved it, and I know you loved it. I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning.’
Kevin also opened up about announcing his exit from the show during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. ‘It wasn’t tough.’
‘It was a necessary decision to say, “Hey, OK, I don’t want to really talk about this anymore. It’s time to move on.’
‘I gave this thing five seasons. I was really happy to do it. And I don’t need drama. So, let’s just take that drama away, let’s take the guessing [away].’
Speculation arose over the reasoning behind Costner not returning, such as disputes over pay and the actor’s availability while filming his epic Horizon: An American Saga.
‘The fans have been way too good to me. And my obligation is to go on and continue to make things that mean something to them,’ Kevin further told the outlet.
On Thursday, Paramount Network revealed the first five pH๏τos from the last half of Yellowstone’s fifth season.

While this block of episodes was originally set to be the show’s last Paramount reportedly shocked fans this week by ordering a sixth season of Yellowstone.
The sixth season will focus on Cole Hauser’s Rip Wheeler and Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton, the daughter of Costner’s John Dutton.
Both Rip and Beth are featured in one of the five new images, looking out into the horizon on John’s iconic Yellowstone ranch in Montana.
Another image features one of John’s other children, Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), the Montana attorney general. He is seen standing at a podium with the Montana state seal, with former governor Lynelle Perry (Wendy Moniz) at his side.
Jamie’s father John was elected governor of Montana and sworn in at the start of Season 5.
There is still no indication how John Dutton will be written off the show – if he will be permanently killed off or written off in some other fashion.
It’s possible that this sH๏τ of Jamie could be him announcing his father has pᴀssed away in an official press conference, though that has not been confirmed.
