There’s not much Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes gets criticized for, but his physique has been a H๏τ-ʙuттon issue this season among a small group of people who have fat shamed the three-time Super Bowl champion for having the “ultimate dad bod.”
The 29-year-old signal-caller has always been a bigger-framed player, but he’s actually slimmed down a bit from his 230-pound frame just two years ago, beginning this season at 225 pounds.
But when Mahomes showed up to Chiefs training camp in mid-July and cameras caught him walking into the team facility, the comment section lit him up for looking on the thick side.
However, Mahomes has taken the criticism about his weight in stride. In fact, in an interview with Tom Brady for “NFL on Fox” on Sunday, Mahomes had the perfect message to those who have an issue with the way his body looks
“I use those hips and that oblique muscle to really rotate through [my throws],” Mahomes told Brady. “The people who see the dad bod, that’s for a reason—that’s the obliques. I’m getting them right.”
Despite all the jokes about his weight, Mahomes has embraced his size, which makes him a threat with his legs when he takes off running.
The Texas Tech alum had a career-best 33-yard run in Sunday’s win against the San Francisco 49ers, and he added a new clip to his highlight reel when he lowered his shoulder and bulldozed over 49ers safety Malik Mustapha on a 1-yard touchdown run.
