Ukraine Claims Drone Strike on Russian Missile Frigate as Black Sea Fleet Faces Growing Pressure

Ukraine says its drone forces have struck another Russian missile frigate in the Black Sea, adding fresh pressure on Moscow’s already battered naval presence.

According to Ukrainian reports, the strike targeted a Russian warship in or near Novorossiysk, the port where Russia has moved many Black Sea Fleet ᴀssets after repeated Ukrainian attacks made occupied Crimea increasingly unsafe. Ukrainian sources have linked recent operations to attacks on frigates such as Admiral Makarov and Admiral Essen, though battlefield damage claims are often difficult to independently confirm immediately.

The attack highlights how Ukraine’s drone war has expanded far beyond trenches and front-line positions. Naval drones, aerial drones, and long-range strike systems are now being used to threaten ships, ports, oil infrastructure, and military logistics across the Black Sea region.

For Russia, the Black Sea Fleet is facing a growing dilemma: staying in port does not guarantee safety, while moving into open water increases the risk of detection and attack. Analysts have noted that Ukraine’s sustained campaign has forced Russia to operate more cautiously, with key fleet ᴀssets pushed away from Crimea and toward better-defended bases.

Kyiv presents these strikes as part of a wider strategy to weaken Russia’s ability to launch missile attacks, protect sea routes, and project power across the Black Sea. Each damaged vessel sends a message: Ukraine may not have a traditional large navy, but its drone campaign is reshaping the naval battlefield.
