PART 2 — THE BLOODLINE BETRAYAL… AND THE QUEEN OF CROWLEY RIDGE! 😱⚡
The wind howled through the pines, whipping icy snow across the clearing as the words shattered Gabriel’s world.
“Your mother…?” Gabriel’s voice broke into a ragged gasp. He gripped his Winchester until his knuckles turned ashen. “Clara died fourteen years ago in the Blackwood cabin fire! I buried her wedding band beside your empty grave!”
“You buried ash and bones that weren’t hers, Papa!” Anna cried, tears freezing against her cheeks as she pulled little Rose тιԍнтer against her side. “Silas Crowley didn’t kidnap Mama… SHE WENT WITH HIM!”
Maggie lunged forward toward the horses, her heart tearing in two. “ROSE! LET MY DAUGHTER GO!”
The lead rider cocked his sawed-off sH๏τgun, pointing the twin barrels straight at Maggie’s chest. “Step back, woman! One more inch and your little brat becomes an orphan for good!”
“Touch her and you die where you sit,” Gabriel growled, his mountain-wolf aura returning with terrifying ferocity. His gray eyes burned like cold steel. “Talk, Anna. What kind of madness is this?!”
“Fourteen years ago, Mama grew sick of starving on your mountain homestead, Papa,” Anna choked out, her voice trembling with years of buried sorrow. “She conspired with Silas Crowley to stage our deaths. She faked the fire so she could claim Crowley’s silver fortune as his legal partner. Crowley raised me behind iron gates… but Mama never let me forget that if I ever tried to find you, she would have you hunted down and hanged!”
Maggie staggered backward, holding her hand over her mouth. “The woman who gave Rose that doll… she said she was a scullery maid…”
“I had to hide Rose,” Anna sobbed, looking at Maggie. “When Crowley dragged your daughter into the camp to work the ore sifters, I couldn’t bear it. I sтιтched Papa’s crest inside the doll, praying that if Rose ever found her way to the valley, someone would recognize the wolf and stars. But Mama found out yesterday. She ordered Crowley’s enforcers to use Rose as bait to draw Papa out!”
The lead rider let out a harsh, mocking laugh. “Touching family reunion! Now drop that rifle into the snow, Blackwood! Madam Clara is waiting at the upper canyon manor, and she gave explicit orders: bring the Mountain Wolf back in irons… or bring his scalp!”
“She’s not getting either,” Gabriel whispered.
With blinding, predatory speed, Gabriel didn’t drop his gun—he dove sideways into the snowdrifts, firing lever-action rounds into the dark brush.
BANG! BANG!
Two lantern flames exploded in a shower of sparks and kerosene, plunging the clearing into blinding darkness and shadow. The lead rider screamed as a bullet tore through his shoulder, his horse rearing violently and throwing him into the snow.
“GET BEHIND THE BOULDER!” Gabriel bellowed to Maggie.
In the chaos of wild gunsH๏τs and panicked horses, Anna shoved little Rose toward the snowy trench. “Run, Rose! Run to your mama!”
Rose scrambled on hands and knees through the drifts, sobbing: “MAMA! MAMA!”
Maggie threw her heavy frame into the freezing slush, catching her daughter in her arms and shielding the little girl completely with her own body as bullets chipped rock fragments into the howling wind.
Gabriel advanced through the pines like a ghost, returning fire with lethal precision, driving the surviving gunmen back into the tree line until the sound of retreating hooves thundered into the distance.
Silence fell over the ridge, broken only by Rose’s muffled weeping against Maggie’s chest and Anna’s ragged breaths.
Gabriel rushed to his daughter, his mᴀssive, trembling hands cupping Anna’s tear-stained face. “Anna… my little girl. You’re truly here.”
“I never stopped looking, Papa,” Anna whispered, burying her face into his coat.
Maggie held Rose тιԍнтly, rocking the child back and forth, weeping tears of pure relief. “You’re safe, baby. You’re safe now.”
“Mama…” Rose whimpered, pointing a tiny, trembling finger back toward the rocky ledge above their campsite. “The lady in the black coat… she didn’t run away with the horses.”
Gabriel spun around, his rifle raised.
High on the granite bluff, standing in the moonlight surrounded by a dozen fresh rifles, was an elegant woman in a luxurious fur-trimmed riding cape. She held a silver-mounted pistol at her side, looking down at Gabriel with an icy, venomous smile.
The face he had mourned for fourteen agonizing years.
“Hello, Gabriel,” Clara called down, her melodious voice slicing through the winter wind like a razor. “You always were so wonderfully stubborn. Did you really think five hirelings were my only trap?”
She gestured toward the narrow mountain pᴀss behind them—the only escape route out of the valley—where heavy kegs of dynamite lay freshly wired along the cliff walls.
Clara clicked the hammer of her gun, her eyes gleaming with ruthless ambition.
“Surrender the тιтle deed to the Blackwood silver vein, husband… or I bury you, your daughter, and that beggar woman beneath ten thousand tons of rock before the sun rises!”
