Toronto Police Identify Suspect in Violent Bridle Path Home Invasion After Family Attacked Inside Their Home

Toronto police have publicly identified one of three suspects wanted in connection with a violent home invasion that took place in the city’s upscale Bridle Path neighbourhood. The early-morning attack left four members of a family injured after they were sH๏τ and struck with a hammer while sleeping in their own residence.

The incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at a home near Hyde Park Circle and Post Road, an affluent area in North York. Three masked individuals forced their way into the house through a rear entrance. Armed with handguns and a hammer, they moved upstairs into the bedrooms, woke the family, and demanded valuables before launching a violent ᴀssault.

The victims were David Morton, 75, the chief executive of real estate company MAC Group; his wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, 64; and their two adult daughters, aged 26 and 28. Three of the family members were sH๏τ during the attack, and all four were also struck with a hammer. Police later described the injuries of those who remained in hospital as life-altering but not life-threatening. Some family members have since been released, while others continue to receive medical care.

In a statement released the day after the attack, David Morton said the family is deeply traumatized. He described the experience of facing such violence in the one place people should feel safest as extremely difficult and stressed that no family should ever have to endure it. He encouraged anyone with information to contact police.

On Saturday, October 31, Inspector Kristy Smith of the Toronto Police Hold-Up Squad named 23-year-old Daijohn Richards of Toronto as one of the suspects. Investigators believe Richards was accidentally sH๏τ in the right shoulder by one of his accomplices during the robbery. Later that same day he walked into a Toronto hospital seeking treatment for the wound. Hospital staff notified police under mandatory gunsH๏τ-wound reporting rules. Officers spoke with him while he was being treated but did not yet have sufficient grounds to arrest him. Richards was discharged on Friday afternoon and remains at large.

Additional evidence developed after his release allowed police to formally identify him as a suspect. He is now wanted on a series of charges that include four counts of discharging a firearm with intent to wound, four counts of robbery with a firearm, three counts of aggravated ᴀssault, break and enter, and related offences. Smith noted that Richards may still be favouring his right side because of the shoulder injury and urged him to contact a lawyer and surrender.

The other two suspects have not yet been identified. They are described as men believed to be in their 20s who were wearing dark clothing. All three are considered armed and dangerous. Police have asked the public not to approach them and to contact authorities instead if they have any information.

Investigators have stated there is currently no evidence that the family was specifically targeted. The motive appears to be opportunistic, with the suspects seeking valuables in a wealthy neighbourhood. Toronto has recorded a notable increase in home invasions in 2026 compared with the previous year, prompting police leadership to ᴀssign additional resources to address the trend.

Anyone with information, including dashcam footage, doorbell camera video, or other details, is asked to contact Toronto police. Tips can also be submitted anonymously.
