MY SON TOLD ME HIS WIFE WAS PREGNANT. THEN I FOUND A LETTER THAT PROVED HE HAD BEEN LYING TO ME FOR 15 YEARS.

I thought my son had finally built the happy family I had always wanted for him.

At 35, Michael had a beautiful house in Ohio, a successful career, and a wife named Jessica who seemed to adore him.

Every Sunday, they came to my home for dinner.

I prepared his favorite meals, listened to their stories, and thanked God that my boy was doing so well.

Then, one Sunday evening, Michael announced some wonderful news.

“Mom, Jessica and I are going to have a baby.”

I nearly cried with happiness.

After losing my husband seven years earlier, the thought of becoming a grandmother gave me something new to look forward to.

I hugged them both and promised I would do everything I could to help.

But as Jessica reached for her glᴀss of water, I noticed something strange.

She glanced at Michael before answering even the simplest questions about the pregnancy.

And when I asked when the baby was due, she changed the subject.

I told myself I was overthinking things.

Until the following Thursday.

Michael had left a folder at my house after helping me repair a broken cabinet. I called him to let him know, but he said he was too busy to come back for it.

“Just look through it and put anything important aside,” he told me.

I opened the folder, expecting to find bills or work documents.

Instead, a yellowed envelope slipped onto the floor.

My name was written across the front.

The handwriting was unmistakable.

It belonged to my late husband.

My hands began to shake.

My husband had died seven years ago. Why would a letter addressed to me be hidden among my son’s belongings?

I sat down and carefully opened it.

The letter was dated fifteen years earlier.

I read the first few lines, and my heart began to pound.

My husband had written about Michael.

About a decision they had made together.

And about a secret they had agreed to keep from me until the right moment.

But the final paragraph was the one that made my blood run cold.

“If Michael ever starts his own family, you must tell him the truth about the child.”

I read the sentence again.

What child?

Michael had never told me about another child.

I immediately reached for my phone, but before I could call him, a message appeared on my screen.

It was from Jessica.

“Please don’t ask Michael about the letter. There’s something you need to understand first.”

A second message arrived seconds later.

“Your husband wasn’t the only person who knew the truth.”

I stared at the screen, unable to breathe.

Then someone knocked violently on my front door.

When I opened it, Michael was standing outside.

His face was pale.

He looked at the letter in my hand and whispered:

“Mom… please tell me you haven’t read everything.”
