🚨 WHO Declares Ebola Emergency in DR Congo as Cases and Death Toll Rise Sharply

The World Health Organization has declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, warning that the situation now poses a serious regional risk. As of mid-May, health officials reported 246 suspected cases and 80 deaths in DRC’s Ituri Province, with confirmed cases also detected in Uganda.

The outbreak involves the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, a dangerous form of the virus for which there is currently no approved vaccine or specific treatment, making containment even more urgent. WHO says response teams are scaling up surveillance, contact tracing, medical supplies, cross-border monitoring, and community engagement.

For families in affected areas, fear is spreading fast. Health workers are racing against time as suspected cases rise, communities face uncertainty, and the risk of cross-border transmission grows.

⚠️ This is more than a local outbreak — it is a warning that urgent action is needed before the crisis spreads further.
