“TODAY WAS THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE” — A FATHER’S HEARTBREAKING WORDS AFTER LOSING HIS 5-YEAR-OLD SON

Rhoam Summer was only five years old. He should have been dreaming about Halloween, exploring the world, and making memories with his family—not becoming one of the youngest victims of a school tragedy.
After the October 15 incident at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, his father, Kelik Summer, shared words no parent should ever have to write:

“Today has been the worst day of my life. My son Rhoam was killed in a school shooting.”
His message captured the unimaginable grief of a family whose world had changed in an instant. Rhoam was among three children and a teacher who lost their lives. Two other people were seriously injured.
But amid the heartbreak, the actions of several people at the school became a crucial part of the story. Authorities said a teacher and a parent intervened, helping stop the violence and prevent further harm. The parent who confronted the teenage suspect was later identified as Kaylub Giamanco.
Rhoam’s parents have since shared memories of a little boy who loved dancing, dinosaurs, rainbows, and making art. They want people to remember not only how his life ended, but also the joy, kindness, and enormous potential he brought into the world.
Behind every headline is a family facing an absence that cannot be explained away. For Rhoam’s loved ones, the world will remember his name—but they will always remember the little boy they knew and loved.
