Philadelphia Police Officer Shane Seiber, Married Father of Two, K*ll3d in West Philly Ambush as Suspect Faces Dozens of Charges

A Philadelphia police officer who was fatally sH๏τ while responding to an early-morning call has been identified as a dedicated 10-year veteran, U.S. Air Force veteran, and married father of two young children. Officer Shane Seiber, 40, died on Saturday, October 10, 2026, after being ambushed in West Philadelphia, leaving behind his wife, a 7-year-old son, and a 3-year-old daughter.

Just after midnight, Seiber and his 33-year-old partner, a nine-year veteran and father of five, responded to a report of a man with a gun on a porch on the 100 block of North 52nd Street. As the officers approached the home and Seiber began knocking on the door, the suspect — later identified as Eric Lewis, 35 — came up from behind. A confrontation quickly turned violent. Seiber was sH๏τ three times. His partner was struck 12 times.

Both officers were found unresponsive on the porch by arriving colleagues and were rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Seiber fought for several hours but died later that morning with his wife and family at his side. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel described the attack as a “brutal, senseless, horrific killing” and said Seiber “fought valiantly.” The surviving officer remained hospitalized in critical condition in the days that followed.

Lewis fled into a nearby alley after the initial shooting and opened fire on additional responding officers. None of those officers were hit. After a standoff that lasted nearly an hour and involved SWAT personnel, Lewis was found hiding in a tree and taken into custody. Police recovered a sH๏τgun and two handguns at the scene; at least one of the handguns is believed to have belonged to one of the officers.

Lewis, who worked for the Philadelphia Water Department, was arraigned and ordered held without bail. He faces more than 70 charges, including murder, homicide of a law enforcement officer, and multiple counts of attempted murder and attempted homicide of law enforcement officers. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 26, 2026.

Court records later revealed that Lewis had a prior criminal history that included weapons offenses, theft, and disorderly conduct. He had also been charged in connection with a 2019 fatal shooting in West Philadelphia but was acquitted following a 2023 bench trial.

Seiber had marked his 10th anniversary with the Philadelphia Police Department just weeks before his death. He was ᴀssigned to the 19th District and lived in Bensalem, Bucks County. Before joining the force, he served in the U.S. Air Force. City officials, including Mayor Cherelle Parker and Governor Josh Shapiro, expressed deep sorrow and ordered flags lowered in his honor. Community members in Manayunk, Roxborough, and Bensalem quickly organized fundraising efforts and expressions of support for his family. Funeral arrangements had not yet been finalized as of mid-October.

The shooting has left Philadelphia’s law enforcement community mourning one of its own while continuing to support the wounded officer and Seiber’s young family.
