New details about the owner of the Santa Monica sober-living residence where Presley Gerber died are drawing attention to his past criminal convictions and previous difficulties obtaining a California psychology license.

Dr. Reza Nabavi, who founded and owns Resolutions Living, was arrested twice in 2002 in drug-related cases. According to state records cited by USA TODAY and the Los Angeles Times, one incident involved Nabavi being found in a vehicle with a teenage girl and drugs. He later pleaded no contest to misdemeanor drug-possession charges in both cases.

When Nabavi applied for registration as a psychologist in 2004, the California Board of Psychology denied the application, citing his criminal convictions, controlled-substance use and unprofessional conduct. He later obtained registration after agreeing to probationary conditions that included psychological evaluation, professional supervision, substance-use treatment and random drug testing. His probation was eventually terminated early, and his current license is listed as active through June 2028.

Nabavi later founded Resolutions Therapeutic Services and opened Resolutions Living in Santa Monica. California health officials have said the residence operates as a sober-living or recovery environment and is not a state-licensed residential substance-use treatment facility, meaning it is not subject to the same state licensing oversight as such treatment facilities.

The revelations come after Presley Gerber, 27, was found d#ead at the residence on September 20. Authorities are investigating his d#ath as a suspected overdose, while the official cause remains pending. There is currently no indication of foul play.

The investigation continues, and the records concerning Nabavi’s past do not by themselves establish any connection between him or the facility and Gerber’s d#ath.
