Hudson Cole Perrins was just two years old when a serious illness rapidly turned into a devastating medical emergency.

In June 2024, Hudson was taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton after developing severe stomach pain. Doctors initially diagnosed constipation and he was sent home. His condition worsened, however, and his family returned to hospital the following day. He was later transferred to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where he became critically ill.

But Hudson’s condition continued to worsen. Just four days later, the cheerful two-year-old was gone after developing sepsis caused by a urinary tract infection, which led to multiple organ failure.

Hudson was remembered by his family as a happy, loving and energetic little boy. His mother, Kayleigh Taundry, has spent more than two years searching for answers about what happened to her son.

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust has now agreed to an undisclosed settlement with Hudson’s family after acknowledging shortcomings in his care. An inquest found that the hospital had failed to follow its own guidelines, including issues surrounding his pain relief and catheter monitoring. The trust maintained that these failures did not directly cause Hudson’s loss.

For his mother, however, no settlement can bring Hudson back.

She continues to hope that her son’s story will lead to important lessons being learned and help protect other children and families from facing a similar tragedy.

Behind the medical questions is a mother who simply wanted more time with her little boy — and who is still searching for answers after losing Hudson at just 2 years old.
