💔 SAYLOR HAYES CASE: SHERIFF REVEALS ALLEGEDLY MISLEADING SEARCH CREWS AS QUESTIONS GROW OVER TRACKING DEVICE
Georgetown County Sheriff Carter Weaver has revealed troubling details following the arrests of John Herb Hayes III, 70, and Geordyn Nichole Hayes, 31, in connection with the disappearance and d#ath of their 5-year-old autistic daughter, Saylor Hayes.
During the mᴀssive search for Saylor, hundreds of volunteers and first responders worked for hours using specialized Project Lifesaver equipment in an effort to locate her. Authorities say the parents encouraged search crews to rely on Saylor’s tracking transmitter, even though investigators allege they knew the device was no longer with her.
The transmitter was eventually located inside a vehicle at the family’s home in Virginia, rather than with Saylor in South Carolina. Authorities have said the device had been removed before the family’s trip, meaning search teams relying on its signal were unable to locate the missing child through the technology.
📜 Investigators also allege that the parents attempted to direct search efforts away from nearby water. Saylor was later found in the water near Hagley Landing, after an extensive search involving multiple agencies and members of the local community.
The parents have been charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk and willfully abandoning a child. Sheriff Weaver has stressed that the charges are based on evidence gathered during the investigation and do not establish guilt. The investigation remains ongoing.
