The message came as investigators continued their work more than half a year after the 84-year-old vanished from her home in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson, Arizona.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on the evening of January 31, 2026, when family members dropped her off at her residence. She was reported missing the next day after she failed to attend church. Authorities have treated the matter as a suspected abduction. Her daughter, Savannah Guthrie, co-host of NBC’s Today show, and other relatives have repeatedly called for public ᴀssistance while describing the prolonged uncertainty as a source of ongoing pain.

In the video, Nanos explained why the notes were released. He said the messages contain distinctive patterns of wording, phrasing, and writing style that someone familiar with the author might recognize. “There are a number of pieces of information in these notes that just might jar someone to say, ‘You know, I’ve heard that,’ or the wording, the style of the writing,” he stated. “We hope that by releasing the actual note, we’ll get some response from the community.”

The first note, sent shortly after Nancy disappeared, claimed she was being held and demanded a substantial payment in Bitcoin for her release. A second note, received a few days later, stated that she had died soon after being taken and had been “buried in nature.” Officials have not confirmed whether both messages came from the same person.

When asked what message he wanted to convey to the Guthrie family at the six-month mark, Nanos emphasized that the investigation remains fully active. “We’re still here. We are not going away,” he said. “If you could just see the team working, you would see the energy, the concern. They’re fired up, and we’ll continue to work this case hard.” He added that detectives are still reviewing large numbers of tips, video recordings, and forensic leads, describing the overall effort as “very active” with substantial work still ahead.

On the same day, Savannah Guthrie shared an emotional Instagram post reflecting on the family’s experience. She wrote that they had “lived every moment, every breath and every heartbeat in agony and despair” and once again appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
