🥺💗 ONE YEAR AFTER A LIFE-CHANGING SURGERY, PAISLEY GRACE IS STILL FIGHTING — AND STILL SMILING 🙏✨

One year ago, Paisley Grace went into surgery for a procedure her family had been waiting and praying for.

The goal was simple to say, but incredibly difficult to accomplish:

Reconnect her colon and reverse her ostomy so her digestive system could work as one again. 🥺💙

But this was anything but a routine operation.

Paisley’s small intestine was only about the width of a boba straw.

Her colon was barely the width of a coffee stirrer.

The two ends couldn’t simply be connected without knowing whether they were even capable of being joined safely.

And before surgery, her family had spent a month preparing her body for that possibility.

Doctors used a technique called mucous-fistula refeeding.

Instead of allowing the colon to remain completely unused, some of Paisley’s ostomy output was collected and carefully reintroduced into the unused section of her colon through a catheter.

It was a painstaking process designed to help her colon gradually adapt to receiving fluid and nutrients again.

For her family, every day was filled with uncertainty.

There was no scan that could guarantee the two ends of her bowel would match until surgeons actually opened her abdomen.

So they waited.

They prayed.

And they hoped. 🙏

Then came the moment they had been praying for.

The surgeon was able to connect the two ends.

Paisley Grace came out of the operating room with her digestive system reconnected.

She no longer needed her ostomy.

For her family, that wasn’t simply the end of an operation.

But recovery didn’t suddenly become easy.

After the ostomy reversal, Paisley still faced feeding difficulties, gagging, vomiting, diarrhea, problems with gut motility and concerns about maintaining her weight.

Her diet had to be carefully adjusted, sometimes again and again, with the help of a dieтιтian.

Her body needed time to learn how to do something it had never done before.

And yet, she kept moving forward.

Paisley’s journey began long before that surgery.

She was born prematurely on June 3, 2017, weighing just 4.5 pounds.

Her medical challenges included serious heart defects, a rare genetic condition, a tracheostomy and a feeding tube.

At one point, her prognosis was so uncertain that her family wasn’t sure she would ever get to come home.

But she did.

And somehow, after every difficult chapter, Paisley kept finding her way home again. 💙

Hospital stays.

Procedures.

Recovery.

Setbacks.

More procedures.

Each one became another chapter in a life that doctors once weren’t sure would have the chance to unfold.

Now, one year after her colon was successfully reconnected, Paisley’s family is celebrating something far more meaningful than a medical milestone.

They’re celebrating her.

The little girl who has endured more than most people could imagine.

The child who continues to smile despite the long and painful road ahead.

The daughter who reminds her family that progress doesn’t always happen quickly — sometimes, it happens one tiny step at a time. 🌷
