The country music icon’s niece, Lainey Mae Parton, confirmed the heartbreaking news Saturday in an emotional Instagram post, revealing that her aunt was laid to rest on Friday, August 28.

“This is a really hard post for me to make,” Lainey wrote alongside a slideshow of family pH๏τographs featuring Dolly with her nieces, nephews and other loved ones.

She explained that she had waited until after Dolly had been laid to rest before trying to put her grief into words.

For Lainey and the rest of Dolly’s family, the superstar was much more than a legendary singer and songwriter.

“Most people can think of at least one bad memory with everyone in their family,” she wrote.

“I honestly can’t think of one with her.”

Dolly did not have children of her own, and Lainey said that she nevertheless made all of her nieces and nephews feel as though they were hers.

Now, Lainey says, the family is left with memories of Dolly’s voice, laughter and hugs.

“It still doesn’t feel real that she’s gone,” she wrote.

The funeral took place at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville, according to Page Six.

Family members were pH๏τographed gathering at the site Friday, while a source confirmed that the gathering was indeed Dolly’s funeral.

Bryan Seaver, Dolly’s nephew and head of security, was reportedly in charge of the arrangements.

Despite spending decades as one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world, Dolly was given the kind of farewell that appeared to reflect her wishes.

“It was a very simple ceremony,” a source told Page Six.

“That’s all Dolly wanted.”
