The Clay County community in West Virginia is mourning the heartbreaking loss of two young brothers following a weekend crash that has left their families, schools and friends devastated.

James Neal III, 7, and Zayden Hurley, 13, were returning from a football game in Richwood when the vehicle they were traveling in left Route 16 near Indore and collided with the rear of a front-end loader, according to local reports.

Both boys later pᴀssed away as a result of the crash.

A third child, a 13-year-old friend of the family, was also seriously injured and remains hospitalized.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through Clay County, where James and Zayden were known as students and young athletes.

James attended Clay Elementary School, while his older brother Zayden was a student at Clay Middle School. School officials described the brothers as well-liked members of their school communities.

In the aftermath, counselors have been made available to students and staff as they try to cope with the loss.
