❤️‍🩹👶 NOT EVEN TWO MONTHS OLD, BABY IRENE SURVIVES OPEN-HEART SURGERY AS HER FAMILY ASKS FOR PRAYERS

For the family of Irene Kamila, August 18 began as a day they expected to be ordinary.

They were preparing for what they believed would be a routine follow-up appointment with Irene’s cardiologist.

Instead, they never went home.

Doctors admitted the South Texas baby to Methodist Children’s Hospital in San Antonio after determining that her tiny heart required surgery.

Irene was not even two months old.

She had been born with two congenital heart defects, including a hole between the lower chambers of her heart and a narrowing of the major artery responsible for carrying blood from the heart to the rest of her body.

Her family had hoped there might be another way to address the problems without such a major operation.

Ultimately, however, doctors determined that Irene needed open-heart surgery.

On Monday, August 24, her parents, Krystal and Irene’s father, handed their tiny daughter over to the surgical team.

Then came the wait.

“It was one of the longest and most frightening days of our lives,” Krystal shared.

For any parent, waiting while doctors operate on the heart of a baby only weeks old is difficult to imagine. The fear, uncertainty and hope can all exist at the same time.

Irene’s parents were understandably concerned about the risks, but they also remained hopeful that their brave little girl would come through the procedure.

Thankfully, Irene emerged strong.

Two days later, she underwent another procedure to close her sternum as part of her recovery.

Now, the tiny heart warrior is continuing her journey with her heart repaired. ❤️‍🩹

The road ahead, however, is not over.

Krystal plans to remain at Irene’s side and will be away from work for the next seven weeks so she can focus entirely on her daughter’s recovery.

Irene’s grandmother, Laura, has also started a fundraiser to help the family manage the challenges that come with an extended medical recovery.

But while financial support can help ease some of the practical burdens, Irene’s family says the thing they want most is prayer.

“We still have a long journey ahead of us, so please continue to keep our baby girl in your prayers.”

That request has become a central part of the family’s message as Irene continues to heal.

They are asking people to pray for her strength, her recovery and peaceful days ahead.

For Krystal and her family, this journey began with what was supposed to be a simple appointment and quickly became one of the most frightening experiences of their lives.

Yet through the fear came another reminder of how strong a tiny baby can be.

Irene is still incredibly young.

She has already faced a major heart procedure, another surgical step in her recovery and an extended hospital stay.

Now her family is looking forward to the days when the focus can shift from procedures and hospital rooms to healing, growing and simply being together.
