‼️ For more than a month, Shaquina Latavia Harris’ loved ones were left wondering where she was. Now, investigators say they believe they know what happened — but many questions remain. 🕊️

A missing-person investigation in Charlotte, North Carolina, has become a homicide case following the arrest of a 45-year-old man in connection with the death of 29-year-old Shaquina Latavia Harris.

Harris was last seen on July 2 after leaving Atrium Hospital in Uptown Charlotte at approximately 10 a.m.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police had also been investigating the possibility that she traveled through the Beatties Ford Road and Woodford Bridge Drive area later that afternoon.

For weeks, her disappearance left relatives, friends, and others waiting for information.

Now, according to Mecklenburg County court records, Floyd Morris Long has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Harris’ death.

He also faces allegations involving the concealment or failure to report a death and larceny related to Harris’ dog.

Court documents allege that Long secretly disposed of Harris’ remains in an effort to prevent others from discovering that she had pᴀssed away. The records also accuse him of taking Harris’ dog, described as a white, long-haired Yorkie terrier mix. 🐕

Authorities have not publicly released many of the details surrounding the case. Officials have not explained publicly how prosecutors believe Harris came to harm, where her remains were ultimately located, or what relationship existed between Harris and Long.

Those unanswered questions could become important as investigators and prosecutors continue developing the case.

Long was booked into the Mecklenburg County jail on August 15 in connection with the allegations involving Harris. Jail records indicate that he is being held without bond as the first-degree murder case moves through the court system.

The timing of his arrest follows another recent detention.

According to jail records, Long had been taken into custody on August 8 on an unrelated allegation involving possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was reportedly released from that custody on August 14.

The following day, authorities booked him again — this time on the charges connected with Harris’ death.

Investigators have not publicly provided a complete timeline explaining what evidence led them from a missing-person investigation to the current homicide allegations.

In cases like this, detectives may examine surveillance footage, cellphone information, transportation records, witness accounts, and other evidence to reconstruct a missing person’s final known movements.

For Harris’ loved ones, however, the investigation has been far more personal than a timeline of evidence.
