A Pennsylvania mother accused of ᴀssisting her teenage son after he allegedly killed his girlfriend publicly expressed regret while being taken into custody. Rachel Moser, hands and feet shackled, told reporters she was “sorry” as state troopers led her to a police vehicle. When asked why, she replied that it was because “my son took a life.”

Her son, 18-year-old Royce Moser, is charged with homicide in the death of 18-year-old Karoline Heintz. Heintz was a talented soccer player and an incoming freshman at Pennsylvania Western University in California, Pennsylvania. According to investigators, the two were in a relationship.

Police say the incident occurred at Royce’s father’s residence in North Strabane Township. Royce allegedly told authorities that Heintz said something that angered him, after which he claimed a “demon took over.” He then retrieved a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her in the chest, according to the criminal complaint.

After the stabbing, Royce placed Heintz’s body in the rear cargo area of her Jeep Cherokee and drove to his mother’s home in Beallsville. Authorities allege that Rachel Moser then became involved in efforts to clean up. Investigators say the pair attempted to remove blood from clothing and the vehicle, used cleaning products, and tried to eliminate visible evidence. Royce allegedly told his mother what had happened, and she is accused of helping him conceal aspects of the crime.

Surveillance footage later showed Royce driving Heintz’s vehicle while wearing latex gloves near the location where the body was eventually found. Police recovered a knife from a garbage bag outside Rachel’s home. According to investigators, the mother and son then traveled separately toward the university area. Royce drove the Jeep containing the body, while Rachel followed in another vehicle. The Jeep was left near the campus in California Borough.

Heintz’s family grew concerned when they could not reach her and used an AirTag linked to her vehicle to track its location. This led police to the Jeep, where her body was discovered in the early hours of Thursday, August 21, 2026, around 12:30 a.m. Both Royce and Rachel were arrested later that morning.

Royce Moser faces a charge of criminal homicide. Rachel Moser has been charged with hindering apprehension, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, obstruction, and related offenses. Both remain in custody.

Officials at Pennsylvania Western University expressed condolences to Heintz’s family and friends and noted that support services were being made available to students and staff affected by the tragedy. The case continues to develop as investigators gather additional evidence.
