Rose Siggins spent her life challenging ᴀssumptions about what a person with a disability could accomplish.
She was born with sacral agenesis, a rare congenital condition affecting the development of the lower spine. Her legs were severely deformed, and doctors amputated both of them when she was only two years old.
But Rose refused to allow her disability to determine the kind of life she would have. ❤️
Growing up, she learned to move using her hands. Eventually, she discovered that a skateboard could give her much greater freedom than the painful prosthetic legs she had previously tried. 🛹
Rather than allowing limitations to define her world, Rose focused on what she could do.
One of those pᴀssions was cars.
Rose developed a deep interest in automobiles and eventually trained as a mechanic. She also learned to drive an adapted vehicle, building a career and independence around something she genuinely loved. 🚗🔧
Then came another chapter that she once feared might not be possible:
Motherhood.
Rose married Dave Siggins and became the mother of two children, Luke and Shelby.
For Rose, becoming a parent was another reminder that her life could be far bigger than the expectations other people might have had for her. ❤️🩹
But her story was about to reach an even larger audience.
In 2014, Rose joined the cast of American Horror Story: Freak Show, portraying Legless Suzi. 🎬
Suddenly, millions of viewers around the world were seeing Rose on television.
But she was much more than the disability that was immediately visible.
She was a mother.
A mechanic.
An actress.
And a woman who had spent decades finding ways to live independently and pursue the things she loved.
Her appearance on American Horror Story introduced her to an entirely new audience and became one of the most memorable chapters of her remarkable life.
Sadly, Rose’s journey came to an early end.
She died in December 2015 at just 43 years old after developing a serious infection following treatment for kidney stones. 💔🕊️
Although her life was far too short, the things she accomplished were extraordinary.
She learned how to move through the world on her own terms.
She pursued a career working with cars.
She learned to drive.
She built a family.
She became a mother.
And she eventually appeared on one of television’s most recognizable shows. ❤️
Rose’s story is a powerful reminder that disability does not automatically determine the boundaries of a person’s dreams.
She didn’t need to live the life other people imagined for her.
She created her own.
And perhaps that is what makes her story so inspiring.
Rose lost both legs as a toddler, but she never lost her determination to discover what she was capable of doing.
She showed that a person can adapt, find new paths, build relationships, pursue pᴀssions and create a meaningful life even when the road looks completely different from what they originally imagined.
Rose didn’t need legs to build a full life. She needed the freedom to discover what she could do without them. 🥹❤️
Her legacy lives on through her children, her work, her television appearance and the countless people inspired by her story.
She was never simply defined by what she had lost.
She was remembered for everything she found.
A career. A family. A purpose. A voice. And a life lived on her own terms. 🕊️❤️
