💔 Six-Year-Old Winter Jones Dies After Being Left Inside Daycare Van in Memphis

Six-year-old Winter Jones was supposed to spend an ordinary Thursday surrounded by familiar faces and the routines of childhood.

Instead, her family is now mourning a little girl whose life ended after she was reportedly left inside a daycare van for several hours in the Memphis area.

Winter died on Thursday, August 13, 2026, after being discovered inside a vehicle ᴀssociated with Kid University, according to information released following the tragedy.

Her family said she had been entrusted to the care of others that day. She was supposed to be safe. She was supposed to return home.

But hours pᴀssed before she was found.

Outside temperatures were reportedly around 97 degrees Fahrenheit. Inside a closed vehicle, temperatures can rise significantly above the outdoor temperature, creating dangerous conditions very quickly. ☀️🚐

The circumstances were especially heartbreaking because Winter was reportedly nonverbal and autistic.

Her family said she could not easily communicate when something was wrong or tell an adult that she was frightened, uncomfortable or in danger.

Her uncle, Christopher Jones, emphasized just how vulnerable she was.

“She couldn’t advocate for herself at all,” he said.

Those words have become central to the family’s grief.

Winter was a six-year-old child who depended on the adults around her to make sure she was accounted for and protected. She should never have been placed in a situation where she had to find a way to protect herself.

At approximately 3:23 p.m., Memphis police received an ambulance call after Winter was discovered. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported her to Baptist Children’s Hospital.
