Izabella Myers was born with a rare condition affecting the development of her left eye. Instead of having a normally functioning eyeball on that side, she was born with little to no developed eye tissue. 🩷👶

To help her facial bones develop as evenly as possible while she is still young, doctors began using a series of specially designed eye socket expanders, also known as conformers. These small medical devices are carefully fitted inside the eye socket and gradually adjusted as Izabella grows. 🏥👁️

About every two weeks, specialists replace her current conformer with a slightly larger one. The gradual process helps maintain the shape and openness of the eye socket, encouraging balanced facial development and creating a suitable foundation for a future prosthetic eye. 🌱✨

Eventually, Izabella is expected to receive a custom-made prosthetic eye designed to closely match the appearance of her natural eye. The goal is not only to create a natural-looking result but also to support the healthy development and symmetry of her face as she grows. 💕👁️

For her mother, however, the journey comes with complicated emotions. She understands how important the expanders and future prosthetic are for Izabella’s development, yet part of her wishes that her daughter could grow old enough to make such decisions for herself.
