💔 A Summer Outing Turned Into Heartbreak: Alabama Mother Mourns Two Beloved Children

For 22-year-old Lolisa Hood, a family trip to enjoy the water was supposed to be filled with laughter, sunshine, and memories.

Instead, one evening at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve in Alabama changed her family forever. 💔🌊

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, Hood lost two of her children, 12-year-old King Scott and 10-year-old Lola Scott, following a tragic water accident that left their family and community heartbroken.

King and Lola were students at Tarrant Intermediate School and were part of a close-knit family of five children. Their mother remembered them as precious children with distinct personalities, dreams, and a special bond that made them inseparable. 🕊️

Lola was a straight-A student who dreamed of becoming a teacher. She enjoyed learning and was involved in activities such as Girls on the Run, where she developed confidence and encouraged others. Her future was filled with possibilities.

King, meanwhile, was described as playful and protective. He loved Roblox and neighborhood football and brought an energetic spirit wherever he went. ⚽🎮💙

The family had originally planned to visit Point Mallard water park in Decatur the following day. Because the children loved being around water, they hoped to find a nearby place to enjoy the summer weather.

After discovering that several local splash pads were closed, the family decided to visit Turkey Creek, a natural water area Hood had previously mentioned to the children.

Hood said she took precautions by making sure the children read the posted rules and remained in shallow areas. At first, everything appeared normal.

But when the family prepared to leave, the children had moved into a deeper section of the creek. The area was estimated to be around eight or nine feet deep.

Brian, the oldest of the three siblings, began calling for help. Hood initially believed he was simply playing before realizing the seriousness of the situation.

She was able to bring Brian back toward the bank but could not reach King and Lola as the current carried them farther away.

In a heartbreaking moment, Hood recalled that King appeared to try to help Lola toward safety. 💙

Two women who happened to be nearby entered the water to ᴀssist, while four men from a pᴀssing truck also stopped to help. Emergency crews from several local departments and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies soon arrived.

Despite extensive rescue efforts and CPR at the scene, King and Lola could not be saved.

Their family remained with them at Children’s of Alabama hospital in Birmingham that evening.

For Hood, the hardest part was leaving her children behind. She recalled staying beside them for several hours, unable to imagine walking away after spending their entire lives together.

“They were precious children,” she said, remembering the two young lives that meant everything to her. 💔

Lola’s dreams of becoming a teacher and King’s joyful personality now live on through the memories of everyone who knew them.
